The more I contemplate buying a new bucket of bolts the more I consider keeping my 2012 going to the grave. It's reliable, just the right size, will run all day at 80mph with the air running wide open and fill ups take 10 minutes. I really doubt electric will be a viable cross country network in...
Don't doubt that the developement costs are a big reason for the lifter failures. Today's subsidization of tomorrow's tech leaves buyers in the lurch. Wait till the bill to pay for the grid upgrade lands in your mailbox.
GM is using the high profit margins from these vehicles to subsidize development of electric cars. This architecture is being abandoned so later years of this run may never be as dependable as the last generation. Sign of the times I guess.
I know from recent experience how it feels to be broke down away from home. My 2012 recently stopped about 3 and 1/2 hours from home and didn't get towed till after dark. Towed it to the nearest GM dealer and left the keys with a note describing what happened then went to a hotel.
Service...
Mine is an old 5.3 that hums but it does start with a jolt. It could be that you were driving something like a transverse or 4/6 cylinder engine before? I know it's hard to take in everything with a short test drive. I usually drive them all over and only return them just before they call the cops.
Gone are the days when I could purchase a new truck from the same salesman year after year. Now the new generation salesman sits by the window pecking at his latest Apple device. When I ask him a question he acts bored and only wants to get back to his texting which is just as well, he has no...
I find your argument specious. I was looking at paying cash for a new suv but upon seeing the problems and realizing my old one is a better fit I decided to buy nothing. You can doubt me if you like also.
Yet these failures have been occurring on pickups for the past two years. GM had a bad production run of springs but I've never heard of a bad run of lifters that has been acknowledged.
It is what it is don't let it get you down and enjoy your new vehicle, you've already crossed that bridge and the odds are vastly in your favor.
Keep an eye on Range Technologies or give them a call to see if they are working on defeating DFM I have one on the way for my 2012. It's not a tuner...
I believe it is endemic to the engines with DFM. It was introduced on the truck models in 2019 and lifter failures have been reported since that time. AFM had it's problems also and took a few years to correct but issues remain long term.
If I were to buy a new GM truck or suv I wouldn't...
As an update the Hoe is still good to go after a few long trips, one was 9 hours one way, and frequent trips to town after changing the ECM. No complaints.
Except it does have some type of squeak coming from the rear when hitting minor imperfections in the driveway while backing out. It's a 100...
You just know that when the time comes to trade these in the salesman will say something like, we can't give you the best trade-in because of these missing features, sorry bud.
That ding will be multiples of the token $50 - $75 mini credit.
