    Thoughts on K&N air filters

When I had my '97 Tahoe, I was driving an average of 300 miles per day for work. I filled up every day, and I calculated MPG and wrote it on every gas receipt. I did this for about 50,000 miles. One day I mentioned to a customer that I'd love to get better mileage. He recommended the K&N...

Hmmm... I'll give it a try. Thanks!

$1100 for a water pump and flush?

I can't believe your water pump is bad at 44K miles. The last two I've replaced had about 200K, and both turned out to be gasket leaks, not pump seal leaks. I can't remember the last time I did a flush.

    Trouble Removing Wheels

I just rotated the tires on my 2016 Tahoe. I had driven the vehicle about 150 miles about an hour before I did this, but the wheels and hubs were cool to the touch. I had great difficulty getting the factory aluminum alloy wheels off of the hubs. I pulled and kicked, even lowered the wheels...

Can anyone help me find out what happened here?

I just pulled out my transmission dipstick yesterday and the filler tube came out with it! This is a common problem, so common that O'Reilley's had one in stock. It was a real pain to replace it, and the Dorman-brand replacement didn't fit exactly right. It didn't fully seat into the...

Consumers Reports? They still publish that garbage? I stopped reading that about 30 years ago.

Can anyone help me find out what happened here?

Welcome aboard, David! On a different subject, you said you had 180,000 miles on this vehicle. Have you replaced the heater hoses? There is a plastic fitting in them that will fail very soon! Ask me how know!

    0-20w oil

The people at Noria, the oil analysis company would agree with you. Lower viscosity oils are used to help meet Federal fuel economy requirements. Look at all the other ridiculous things they are doing to meet these requirements, such as shutting off the engine when you stop. Since zinc has...

No Transmission Service or Tune up

At the risk of jinxing myself, I don't change transmission fluid. I've had my share of transmission failures over the years--NONE related to fluid. All were mechanical failures. A couple were components that broke while still under warranty. I would definitely change the heater hoses. I...

Really, 5 weeks out for brake rotors

I've bought from JEGS one time, never again! I bought some 5 gallon gas cans, similar to the VP Racing cans. However, the VP cans have an O-ring on the cap whereas the JEGS can has a foam gasket that leaks like crazy when you turn it upside down to pour it. The caps are not interchangeable...

I see no reason why you would be entitled to an extended warranty. You received EXCELLENT service, the vehicle was repaired under warranty in record time, and you were inconvenienced for a minimal amount of time. It is certainly disappointing to have such a failure in a new vehicle, but I...

Definitely do it now! Your vehicle is 16 years old. The seal in mine was about that age when it started leaking.

2021 Yukon XL At4 Dead before leaving Dealer Lot

Agreed! Agreed! I didn't know that snowflakes were allowed on this forum. The dealer immediately sent out technicians to work on it and ordered the part. Isbell is owed nothing more. If she wants to cancel the order, I'll bet there are a hundred other buyers that would jump on it.

    Consensus on Cold Oil Changes

Hot oil changes are an old wives tale. Sludge sticks to the pan, it doesn't float around in the oil. And if it did, the filter is supposed to catch it. I've been doing cold oil changes for about the last 30 years and run most of my vehicles to about 300K, no problems.

    Sold my new tahoe

I guess I don't understand the problem. I usually one or two calls a day offering an extended warranty on my vehicles--and they don't even know what they are!

    110,000 mile service

Wow! You can easily get to 200K without doing most of that. Alternator & heater hoses/fittings at 150K and you're good. Oil lines? What oil lines? Wanna buy some oceanfront property? I've got some in Arizona...

May buy 05 Yukon - what should I look for?

Well, I did it! I jinxed myself. Two days after posting this, the heater hose fitting blew on my 2009 Tahoe (about 185K). Fortunately, I was on my way to the water place and realized the problem about 2 blocks from it. I stopped to see what was going on and let it cool for a minute, then...

What Is The Contraption Above The Oil Filter???

Wasn't there a recall on this? I remember one about oil spraying onto the exhaust causing a fire or something like that.

    Perfect timing...

I've had several water pump leaks in recent years, every one of them was the paper gasket. Replacements all came with rubber gaskets. I don't know why GM won't make the switch (well, yes I do--it would cost them a nickel more).

At what mileage should I considering trading in my Tahoe??

I usually buy them with 80K to 100K, sell them when they get well over 300K.
