    6.0 vs. 5.3 conversion questions

Thank you for the real world experience deerhunter1970! Are you a 3/4T with the 4.10 gear? I didn't think 4.10 gears were available in the 1/2T truck/suv? Or did you change to 4.10 to compensate for tire size larger than stock?

    6.0 vs. 5.3 conversion questions

Thanks 01. I may look at that option too. I thought I had previously read though that the 243/799 are a better flowing cylinder head. Does anyone know off the top of their head, what size in CC is the dish of the LQ4 pistons?

    6.0 vs. 5.3 conversion questions

Thank you TonyRodz, swathdiver, 01Formula, & adriver for all of the excellent commentary and tech info. Some of it I was aware of, but it's always good to go back over it. One thing I've been considering is picking up an LQ4 because they don't bring the premium like LQ9's and then doing a...

    6.0 vs. 5.3 conversion questions

Did you retain the stock LQ4 dished pistons? Was a flash/tune an absolute necessity or does the 5.3 stock ECM have enough flexibility to compensate for the additional load of more cubes, and more fuel/air demand? And yes, with the engine out, I would definitely budget for a trans refresh at...

    6.0 vs. 5.3 conversion questions

I have not found one "bible" all inclusive thread here that covers the swap. I've found lots of threads, but none with all of the info packed into one complete thread. Can you point me to the one complete "bible" thread for the 6.0 swap? I understand that they are physically the same and...

    6.0 vs. 5.3 conversion questions

I've considered selling this Tahoe and sliding into one with lower mileage, but with 290k on the ticker it's going to be a very hard sell. So I've decided to keep it and do some upgrades, improvements. The existing 5.3 runs good, but leaks oil like a sieve currently. I also band-aided either...

    6.0 vs. 5.3 conversion questions

My 04 Tahoe just rolled 290k on original engine and trans. I'm considering a 6.0 replacement. Is it worth the effort to drop an LQ4 in there in place of my L59 5.3? Researching it, there isn't much Torque or HP difference between the 04-06 5.3's and the standard LQ4 6.0. The LQ9...

    Front right popping sound

Where the upper arms bolt to the frame, that is where the adjusters are.

    Front right popping sound

I've had this before. Make sure your upper arm adjuster bolts are tight. After an alignment, the tech didn't snug them up enough and they were loose. I heard it most commonly when turning in reverse too.

'04 Tahoe Z71 shocks, front upper arms, lower ball joints, inner tie rods -new, take off,low mileage

Awesome. Good luck with the project. I'm interested to hear how it goes and turns out. I could probably do it myself too, but I always have a time shortage between work and other obligations. I've got a labor estimate only of around $500-$600 to do the job. Good luck!

'04 Tahoe Z71 shocks, front upper arms, lower ball joints, inner tie rods -new, take off,low mileage

Thanks for the reply. How long have you had the parts in and how are the Mevotech parts holding up? I have always heard go Moog or nothing at all since all others supposedly wear out too fast. Also noticed you ordered upper ball joints. From what I've looked at, the cost to install uppers...

    2WD Z71?

I couldn't have said it better myself CountryBoy19. Like Biden said.....Osama is dead and GM is alive. Lots to be proud of crazy old Uncle Joe. :rolls eyes:

What did you do to "punch out" the cats? Did you remove them and replace with straight pipe or something else? Nice work....congrats!

    2WD Z71?

Good question....and very debatable. I'm personally not very impressed with much out of GM, especially since 2008. That is why I'm driving my 04 into the ground. ;)

    2WD Z71?

I think it boils down to GM finding keywords and "bold new graphics" that they determined helped sell vehicles so they just started slapping it on anything to make a sale. Instead of being innovative like Ford, who brought the Raptor to market, GM is lazy and just uses the ho-hum "bold new...

    2WD Z71?

Strange....my 04 VIN came up as invalid on that site. Double checked it, I put the VIN in correctly. Maybe 04 is too old already for this site.

    2WD Z71?

Yes, there were 2wd Z71 Tahoes and Subs in the later years of NBS. I have seen a few in person. The Z71 emblem is slightly different too. It does not have the 4x4 underneath the Z71.

    Stupid I/m monitors

My brother has had problems with his I/M readiness tests completing in his 01 Silverado. One thing that somehow comes into play with the I/M tests is having the A/C running. I don't know why, but my brother fought an I/M readiness test for over a year. At that time his A/C was inoperable...

Factory Bose 6 disc changer, in dash stereo REPAIR

Thanks for the suggestion. I got it working again by just picking up a complete CD portion of the factory stereo from a junkyard Tahoe/Suburban. The complete CD stacker portion comes out of the stereo head unit by 4 screws. Pretty easy once you do it once. Any questions about these CD 6...

At my wits' end with oil leaks

I have checked that on mine. I can blow thru it, but not easily. I know that is a metered(choked down) orifice, but how much resistance should there be at the PCV when checking it by blowing thru it?

At my wits' end with oil leaks

There are 2 other possible problematic areas that I am aware of. First one is rear cover gasket. It's on the back side(trans end) of the block, and can leak independently of the rear main seal. Another one to check is the crank position sensor which is apparently above the starter. I...
