I get 14.9 in mixed driving on my 2001 5.3L. I’m easy on th pedal, OG style.

    Fuel grade

At 14,000 miles per year, divided by 14 miles per gallon, our Tahoe or Yukon uses about a thousand gallons of gas per year. So premium 91 octane gas costs about $500 bucks a year more than 87 Octane, assuming $0.50 more per gallon. And this completely neglects that we’re actually getting...

Which alternator for 2013 Yukon Denali XL? ACDelco 145 Amp?

I’m piggy-backing on this helpful thread because the alternator in my 2001 Yukon is original. Working fine now but 22 years USA long time. My K__ RPO codes are below, KC5, KG8, KNP, K34, K47. Can I upsize my alternator? What is the best alternator to use? My next project is remove dash cap and...

Engine coolant level in surge tank ?

Dealer will take care of this I’m sure , but just a reminder to always use Orange Dex Cool coolant, don’t mix with other formulations or colors. The different types of coolant all work well, but don’t mix well.

    Replace radio with screen?

Sony w/out CD player fits in the dreaded 1.5XDIN space well because they are relatively shallow, but you will need a new Bezel such as this Metra. Don’t forget to change your speakers, they are likely blown and disintegrated. Crutchfield is super helpful.

Looking to purchase 2015-2019 Yukon SLE or SLT Not a Denali

Just as a hobby I follow/search/window-shop for 2019-2020 Yukon SLTs on Carvana. My observation is that any not-black, 40-50K miles, clean CARFAX for 40-50K bucks are almost always already on hold for selling by the time I find them. Seems like that’s a great model for reliability, value...

New guy here my name is Charlie and I reside in Ky,bought my son a 1999 Tahoe looking at working on it together.

What brand LED build did you use? Sometimes LED can be wonky. I’m sure you tried flip-swapping the bulbs with each other to make sure its not a bad bulb. Did you reinstall the old bulbs to see if the problem goes away? Check the fuses? If you hooked up the new bulbs without disconnecting the...

    Our trucks VS Toyota Sequoia???

You are on the right track. If I was doing it over I’d have stuck with the dealer longer than I did, but I’ve found a great local shop that I trust. At 22 years and 175K miles the only non-service repairs I’ve done are 1X single inner tie rod end (165K), 1X minor AC repair (155K recharged and...

New guy, not an owner yet, looking for some buying advice...

My personal experience with a 2001 4WD is that if you find a good 2004-5-6 with less than 130,000 miles on it, and are OK with putting $2-3K in up front plus $1-2K per year (or equivalent self service) then you will have great experience. There is so much aftermarket out there for these trucks...

    Our trucks VS Toyota Sequoia???

Flash back: When I bought my 2001 Yukon SLT 4WD I strongly considered a Land Cruiser, but in the end the driving experience and capability of both trucks was so similar that me and my Youngblood self just couldn’t see paying $50K for the L/C vs $42K for the GMC. The L/C had more wow/pow, but the...

    help choosing a radiator

Update - Answering my own question - YES. I’ll check the owner’s manual, but I believe 2001 GMC Yukon 5.3L 4WD requires Orange Dexcool coolant. Does anyone know the answer to this? (yes) But wow, there is quite the history on orange Dex Cool coolant, including a class action lawsuit that was...

OE Shocks for my 2004 Tahoe

You have the same suspension as I do on my 2001 4WD 5.3. After some research I installed Bilstein B6-4600 front, seems like can’t go wrong with this choice. There are plenty of other good shocks but to maintain stock lift, most enthusiasts would be really happy with Bilstein, unless they hate...

    help choosing a radiator

This, and you remind me to make sure they use pre-mix radiator fluid (with deionized water) or else I’ll bring them a few gallons of distilled water to 50/50 mix with. Anyone know cooling system fluid capacity approx?
  17. Scott in AZ

Well, I screwed my self big time.

I can neither confirm nor deny that back in the day we had terrible grounds on main seawater pump motor, ended up brewing up some some super-deionized reactor grade fresh water and flushing out all the windings. A hella’ lot more than 6 gallons. Dried it out meticulously. I’m not suggesting that...

Well, I screwed my self big time.

The more I think about this the more I think you will end up fine. How much water could it be? A sunroof is what ? Less than 2ft x 3ft or 864 square inches. A hard rain is what ? 1-2 inches? If 1.5 inches then you have 1300 cubic inches of water through your sunroof. That’s less than 6 gallons...

D-Pillar speaker revisit - purpose and connections

I replaced my rear pillar speakers in 2001 Yukon w factory amp, without Bose. I used Memphis Audio PR27s. Fit was perfect. Depth and mounting are very similar to OEM original. See pics, I rotated speakers 90 degrees and drilled new pilot holes into the plastic pillar back-body, added sheet...

    help choosing a radiator

Lil’ help. Quick question on preventatively /proactively replacing radiator: Trusted local shop has my 2001 Yukon 5.3L in for installing front shocks (Bilstein 4600) and noticed coolant leak at water pump. Checked my records …. It’s still the original OEM water pump after 22 years and 180,000...
