Sunday 4 PM update:
Job completed; I struggled with the timing set but I overcame that issue and finished the job.
Took it out for a test run/uphill pull and yup........I still get a random misfire above 75 MPH.
To make matters worse I have a slight leak on the BRAND NEW AcDelco water pump from...
I got the entire new timing set on this morning after about 25 minutes of fiddling with it. I ended up having to install both gears simultaneously and then tapping down the crank sprocket with a 36MM socket.
It is a Cloyes C-3017 set and is a 100% match to the set I removed.
Thanks for...
I'm deep into the timing chain job and I'm ready to start re-assembly.
I planned on installing crank gear first( heated up to 200 degrees F ) it slipped right on the crank snout.
Chain is fully oiled, timing marks on cam and crank aligned and chain is draped over the cam gear.
I cannot for the...
Latest update as of 2:00 10/24.
I installed brand new AcDelco distributor yesterday and retimed; No Change.
Took it out for a highway up hill pull and it stared misfiring at around 75MPH.
Back into the garage to replace the Crank position sensor(CPK); installed a new sensor and I could NOT get...

Make sure you get the mounting plate along with the block off plate. It will bolt right in.

quick question for you: Did you have to drop the oil pan to get the timing chain swapped out or just choose to for ease of installation.
Wondering if I have options or not.
Thanks

Got the crankshaft sensor today and unlike the picture, NO SHIMS came with it, does anyone have a couple of shims left over that they didn't use?
Much appreciated.

Using a Bosch 1350 scanner, which wasn't cheap; it will read ignition advance which isn't the same thing.
I've learned that after a distributor replacement/move, you may or may not get a Cam retard error; depends how close to perfect you get it installed. Since I'm chasing this misfire issue, I...
Secondary question: is the relearn procedure required after the CAMshaft sensor( dizzy replacement ) or only after the CRANK shaft sensor replacement? Replacement distributor is in hand now and the crankshaft sensor doesn't arrive until Friday. Getting anxious to resolve this
Thanks

I have a new AcDelco distributor (94672691)complete with new cap and CPS on order as well as an AcDelco crank sensor (213-4761). Waiting on both to arrive and in hand before I move ahead, Understood I'll need to do ckp/cps relearn after each replacement effort. In the meantime I'm keeping it...

Thanks for the input; I'm already committed(part wise) to a timing cover replacement due to a front oil seal leak. I was planning on replacing the CKP Sensor as part of that job and will now add a Cloyes timing set too as a "while I'm already in that deep" action.
I guess I'm not...
PNW, Thanks for the suggestions.
Fuel pressure at idle is rock steady at 50PSI; with my foot into, uphill and AC on it the pressure is 60PSI.
Immediately upon shutdown, the fuel pressure slowly rises(in about 60 seconds) up to 58 PSI
20 minutes post shutdown, fuel pressure is still holding at...
Greetings,
My ride: 1997 Tahoe 2 door 5.7 engine with 211K miles.
My Issue: Getting a random misfire P0300 at higher speed( over 75 MPH) or when the engine is under load, uphill or passing with AC on. Getting and engine shudder as well flashing SES light which then goes solid.
Initially I...
I will check the body of the new spider when I get home...didn't even think of looking in there.
Seems weird that the ACDelco kit would have MOST of the required gaskets but not the O-rings.
Thanks again
tbruz
EDIT: yellow O-ring is present in the new spider body- both locations
I'm not sure which O-rings are required, hence the post...
I'll look into those but was hoping for a confirmation of this is what you need from someone who's been there , done that….
Need to replace the fuel spider on my 97 Tahoe.
The AC-Delco kit 217-3029 I purchased came with most upper plenum gaskets but not the two(maybe 4) O-rings for the fuel feed/return lines.
I don't want to purchase an entire Fel-Pro upper gasket set for these O-rings( being told its a four piece...
Static issue solved !!
While chasing anther issue, I found one of my distributor cap mounting ears had broken off of the distributor base. I basically had only one mounting ear holding down the cap. I bought the Dorman 90449 dizzy repair plate and installed it.
NO more static !!
Thanks

My DS seat belt stopped working, it seems jammed and will not extend for me to latch it.
Does anyone have a PN for a grey one so that I can try to purchase a NOS one(unlikely but worth a shot).
Otherwise a trip to my local junkyard is in my future unless someone has a parts rig and has a DS...
Local shop did all six brake lines with hand formed Cu-Ni lines, $448 out the door. I was pleasantly surprised at the cost as I was expecting $800+ from what I'd heard.

Deciding to replace the leaking front oil seal on my 97 Tahoe with 207K miles. While i'm in that deep i'm also replacing the water pump and timing set. Cloyes has 2 choices for the 1997 5.7 engine with R in the VIN (like mine) Cloyes C-3017 and Cloyes C-3092.
From Cloyes website both are...
My 1997 2 door 4WD is going to need the brake lines replaced.
its got 209K miles and was originally from South Carolina( been in NH now for 9 years). So I cant really complain about how long/short they lasted.....
Bunch of questions coming to mind:
Who's gone with the SS versus plain steel or...
I also dumped the aftermarket ones for junkyard ones due to the mirror vibrating/shaking at speed.
I was literally getting a headache and dizzy looking at the aftermarket glass, no bueno.
Are those PNs 15764758, 15764757 for electric only or electric & heated?
Thanks
