At some point in the life of this car the oil pan gasket had been replaced. The gasket didn't have the rivet and trans end had more RTV on it than seemed necessary to me and my YouTube University professors.
For reinstallation I applied a smidge at the seams in all the corners and buttoned it...
After more studying at YouTube University, I prepared to sag the front diff. That turned out to be the toughest part of the whole thing. Actually, sagging the front diff turned out to be the second hardest part. The hardest part was getting the front diff back in place.
Anyway after a couple...
Been a couple months since I posted, was just driving and tweaking. Or at least I was until January.
I got the dreaded "oil pressure low" one day when firing it up cold. I was close to time for an oil change so I did that. The oil change cleared it up for a week or so, but then I started...
Sup neighbor. I dunno how long you might have been here in Nashville, but it's pretty rare to get as much snow as we got a few weeks back. That said, we do typically get a few days of icy rain and sleet a year and I'm already partial to 00-06 generation of Tahoe/Yukon/Escalades
Thankya thankya, it means a lot to me. I've been a fan of your Denali for a looooooong time now, although I confess it's been a while since I last checked out your build thread.
For me, the "how much worse could I possibly make this" attitude has made owning this a lot more fun. Professionals...
I used a couple box fans with air filters and cardboard under a partially opened garage door to get some airflow. Must've done the truck - the family didn't notice any fumes even in the rooms directly above the garage
Thanks!
Those chrome 20s are the factory wheels that came on it. They're rare enough that a lot of people haven't seen them. For the build, I wanted wheels that were larger diameter but something everyone else wasn't using. When I came across these, I was pretty stoked because you don't often...
Well dang, you took a tour through my neck of the woods! I spent a lot of time in Columbia as a kid, that's where my grandma lives. Looks like you had a fun time on your trip!
I have one door that's starting to show signs of delamination and one spot on top outside of the roof rails. I thought about getting it while I was doing the hood and roof, but I didn't want it to snowball into an entire paint job. In black. For my first time painting. I'll get it eventually...
Thanks Chase! Dunno if you remember but you actually pointed out the differences in the Esky glass, which helped me get the right one. I never noticed before that some had the trim around the border and some did not. Took me a bit to find and Escalade rear hatch that did not have the border...
Hey, I get to participate today!
After I lowered my Denali a couple weeks ago I took it to a custom shop close to me for an alignment. First time they told me it was ready, it was so twitchy and pulled left that I only got about a quarter mile down the street before I brought it back. The next...
I know what you mean. A lot of this stuff was done so long ago that I forgot about it, and I keep remembering more stuff that I forgot. It was fun documenting it though
The drop! After wheels and tires, my favorite part of any build is the drop. I'd never lowered any AWD or 4x4 before, but I felt pretty confident after reading the instructions and watching a few YouTube videos.
I did new hubs and axles while I was in there and I ended up destroying a ball...
I also pieced together a set of Strada Old Skool 24s and some tires from walmart.com. Snafu with the tires - Walmart wouldn't mount them even though they sold them, so it took me a few tries to find a shop to mount and balance them. Here they are installed and before the drop:
I had been acquiring parts for a mild drop while all this was going on. I scored a set of belltech drop spindles from @Dantheman1540 and ordered a rear drop kit from @NORCAL SS. One of the spindles showed up fine but the other apparently fell into a lake on the way here. Dan was the man and...
