I did not end up going with Phoenix Transmissions. I had planned to get a U-Haul car carrier and tow it up. Turns out that the Tahoe exceeds the weight capacity of the U-Haul carrier. I would have to go across town to pick up a flat bed carrier. Given local traffic it realistically would have...
@falconK, yes, the OE backup just worked.
Well, somewhat. The reverse guide lines did not work before the stereo upgrade. The stereo upgrade did not fix that issue. Was not a big deal to me so did not further troubleshoot.
I have spent hours researching, calling and asking questions of multiple local shops and remanufacturers. Finally I found another post recommending Phoenix Transmissions in Weatherford, TX. I called and immediately was comfortable with this outfit working on my vehicle. I let him tell me what...
@NickTransmissions, thank you. I had overlooked page 1 detail in your thread. Got the list plus the recommended torque converter with .050” or thicker converter clutch w/ billet cover from later in the thread.
Again, anyone else have recommendations from experience in Austin area on...
Last transmission fail (older tahoe with 4l60) I purchased an upgraded reman and had it installed. It performed better than the original. But, when all was done I told myself I would do the swap myself next time. Unfortunately, the previous reman provider is out of inventory of this trans right...
My '17 PPV is at ~120k miles. It had transmission fluid/filter change at 60k. I was thinking about doing it again soon. But, I am now experiencing a slight shudder infrequently in lower gears. Never at cruising. Also, when starting out from a stop sometimes just a very slight lag/jolt.
Last...
Interesting coincidence - got to the airport yesterday and found my 2017 PPV dead. Had to jump start. Got it home and everything was fine. Figured I left an interior light on. Then this morning found it dead again. Disconnected both batteries and found one at 12.5V and the other at 4.5V. Likely...
@2015TahoePPV, I haven't started working on it yet. The Texas summer heat has hit and I do not want to sweat through troubleshooting.
Perhaps someone on the forum understands aftermarket steering wheel control interfaces. I do not know anything about it. My expectation is that the head...
@falconK, I configured and ordered the kit from Crutchfield. It included:
- Metra 99-3015G Dash Kit
- PAC RP5-GM51 Wiring Interface
- Antenna Adapter
- Jensen CAR110X
I did take the wiring harnesses from Jensen and PAC to the bench to solder/shrink wrap together before installing in the car...
A couple of weeks ago I upgraded my 2017 PPV from IO3 to a Jensen 10.1" head unit. The kit from Crutchfield preserved my backup camera functionality even though it included a new camera, which I have not installed. The price was very reasonable and I'm happy with the large screen and the...
I ordered a steering wheel and clock spring yesterday. After some research my expectation is that I can add an ASWC-1 (https://metra-static.s3.amazonaws.com/documents/ASWC-1_Manual_Programming.pdf) and set it up directly as in resistive control mode without changing the cluster.
I'll have all...
@2015TahoePPV, did you make any progress on this?
I'm a new owner of a 2017 PPV. I am ready to order a new aftermarket head unit. I would also be interested to know if the steering wheel controls work with the aftermarket integration. I'm planning to work off of @JohnC12's posted instructions...
2007 Tahoe. Lasted 15 years and 160k miles and was operating perfectly. That is until the radiator cracked while the wife was about 100 miles from home. Told me it started driving funny when she got home. Never knew until then that the standard service should include replacing the radiator at...
@Foggy,
I have a new AC Delco radiator. Factory fan that seems to be operating properly with no flow restrictions. I am in Texas. The current local weather may still be considered 'summer' by many on this forum :-)
I'll definitely re-log the temps once we get some solid weather changes in the...
I appreciate the inputs to my issue. This has been a learning experience. It is very infrequent for me to take long (>30min) drives in this vehicle. So, it has taken some time to learn more about my perceived issue. I did actually buy a Raspberry PI, dual ADC and temp probes. But, ended up not...
@swathdiver, thanks for the detailed flow data. I may use it. But, decided to do a couple of other measurements first.
First, I found out why I was remembering the old tranny running at 185 while I keep seeing the interior engine temp gauge at 210. The thermostat is a 187deg set point.
I had...
@swathdiver, it makes sense that the dealer has a dedicated system. If I knew the specifications of the flow rate I could likely use a stop watch with a graduated bucket to check the flow at the output of the radiator/cooler. I can't find the specification after spending some time online searching.
@Foggy,
Fluid is correct. I have a FLIR camera that I can use to check for temp differential on the lines once it is hot and the cooling fan is running. I'll also give a go at monitoring the converter via OBD and watch for the lockup.
Thanks.
@Foggy, thanks for the reply.
The transmission is a 4L60E. I'll be patient. Just am worried about getting out too far on the vehicle and ending up driving it too hot.
I was just reading some information, per your point about the converter, is it right that putting it in trailer mode will force...
I very recently had the transmission swapped on my '07 Tahoe 5.3L with 165k miles. The replacement was a remanufactured transmission and torque converter from a reputable national remanufacturer. I had it done in a local, smaller shop. I also replaced the radiator with a new OEM unit. At the...
