I think it might be a combination of both as stated here.. As engines age and seals get older they're eventually going to leak. Yes.. either disconnect battery or all HVAC fuses and all actuators in the vehicle will recalibrate. Dont touch any HVAC control for 2 to 4 mins while this occurs. Not even fan speed. Before u do that. Set the rear fan on the lowest speed so the system is already set on when u reconnect the... -

That switch is 1 of 2 things. Its either a high pressure safety switch, or a high pressure sensor. Both are slightly different but they will both do 1 critical function and that is to shut off the compressor if the high side gets too high.
