    i am not sure on that specific axle. But i think there is a drift pin that slides out on some. you can rotate the spider gears to see it usually.

    So I've got a clunk and took care of the usual culprits first. U joints. Greased the yoke. But I can feel and hear a clunk switching from D to R. Also sometimes during light acceleration. About 185k , I don't tow. But who knows past owners. Does slop in the rear end require a rebuild. Or start...

    i found a few places that sell them online, ranging from $30-50 a piece? Really pricey for a small stamped thing. I have my paint done. Once I get everything put back together i may start looking into making my own brackets.

    Manual trans swap unpopular?

    I remember watching the forum member here, but I can't remember his name. He had to do some serious fabrication for the shift linkage. But looks very slick in the video above. I doubt I have the ambition any more. But the manual swap in my Cummins was always a dream.

    Do you think I should keep the z71 moulding and colormatch? My goal is a lower profile step. But I don't want it to look like a hatchet job.

    havent gotten that far yet. I am expecting some surface rust bare minimum and i just didnt get to it before the temps dropped. If i can get some inside space for a few days, i will be pulling it once the esky steps are done.

    First discovery. The bolts on the bottom to disassemble are likely to be froze in their clips. And most the stuff is plastic. So far plastic welding is holding better than even jb weld. Pics tomorrow

    i think i am going to repair and hopefully improve the supports they have. but i have some work to do. I need to remove all the lower z71 moulding to mount these, and im not sure how they are going to bolt up either. when i repair and paint, ill get some pics together.

    So i bought a set of 00-06 running boards. need to pain the plastic ends to match. on each one there is like a plastic dog ear bracket. really flimsy, and they all are broken. is it worth trying to plastic weld or reinforce. or is there a reasonable source for those pieces to just use new?

    i picked one up used. and the main thing i wanted was the temp readout. which is accurate. the only thing thats bugging me is the compass is really slow to react. If i unplug the battery will it reset?

    Driving to normal....for a flight....what the hell. When you get to normal, rip out your pcm. Courier it to us. Get tuned. We will mail it to you on vacation. Fly back. Put it in. Everybody wins.

    Honestly went better than I expected. I just took my time. But even slow, without lifting the truck up. Took an hour at most. I know people say a second set of hand helps. But its a tight spot. I used a piece of oak about 2x1x 24" as leverage. And it went well.

    I got mine off eBay. But I know there are allot of sources. No programming needed. But I wanted it done before my time. Pretty straight forward. Immidiate gratification for like $30

    I had to run out for fluid to add, lost about a quart during the install. True to the claims. 1-2 slip is gone. In fact jumps into second quite nicely.
