    Oil pan gasket replacement

Thanks rocket man! Probably going to tackle this in the next couple weeks! Pretty bad leak seems to be be coming from the back two corners, no oil on flywheel, which is a plus. Sucks because I changed the oil this last weekend and spent an hour removing starter chasing this leak, but can never...

    Oil pan gasket replacement

I've read a lot of things about doing this in the garage in an afternoon, just wanting to check and see if this is true. I have read that I can unbolt the four bolts on the front diff and lower it down a few inches to access the oil pan enough to clear it out. The two bolts on the passenger side...

    Rough Idle

All the wiring in the steering column down to the transmission look good. Transmission mount has never been swapped out that I know of but looks like it's in great shape.

    Rough Idle

So it's been a while since last post, thought I would give some info that I found out today. Was driving along trying to warm up the transmission and going somewhat slow through the gears. Shifted it down to first as I was slowly coming up to a stop sign. Once it got below 5 mph is when the low...

    Outside tire wear

Both front tires yes, and I had michelins on before and they were way worse. The truck has been holding an alignment now for well over a year. Firestone has a 50K warranty so guess I'll just try and get two new ones and see how they do.

    Outside tire wear

So I bought new Firestone Destination AT tires and have driven with them for a little over 15,000 miles in only a year and a half. Everything on the front suspension was changed about two years ago, including all four shocks. I noticed the outer tire on the front looked as if it were cupping...

    Oil leak kicking my rear

Pull the starter and look above it at the crankshaft sensor, it could be leaking from there also.

    Oil type for 2000 Tahoe

Same! 146K on original 5.3L 2004, Castrol GTX 5W-30 with a Fram filter, no issues, fingers crossed! Have always been told once you go high mileage oil you cannot go back because it is designed to expand the rubber seals in the motor! Just my two cents worth.

    Valley Cover Gasket

Is it easier to replace the oil pressure switch or try and get it sealed up? The switch works as advertised but it may be leaking!

    Knock sensors

There's always one in the crowd!! Hahah, tried the knock but no reply!!!

    Knock sensors

So I had a buddy I work with buy some knock sensors, harness, and a few other parts for his Tahoe motor about a year ago and never got around to installing them. I have already checked and they will fit mine, but the question is should I test them to make sure they are good, or throw them in and...

    Sloppy/Loose Steering Fixed!

Had horrible sloppy steering when I purchased 2004 Tahoe Z71 with 113,000 miles. Rebuilt front end with everything including all new shocks, did not replace wheel hub assemblies and gearbox. Tried the above tightening techniques; did not work for me so I purchased a new gearbox. Installed...

    Valley Cover Gasket

Thanks! Make sure you take some pictures, I'll probably be doing all mine here soon too.

    Valley Cover Gasket

With the knock sensors mentioned above, I've read to surround the gasket in RTV 3/4. Why not all the way around, and which color would be best to use?

    Oil pan gasket leaking?

I would much rather like to swap out the valve cover gaskets, I have a leak from the valley pan gasket also, thinking about swapping that first and cleaning everything on top and then dropping down and changing out the oil pan gasket. Just have to find time to do it.

    Oil leaks

Thanks for the heads up but, I did clean everything once again and watched while it was running and found it leaking at the rear of the oil pan above the starter. There's no oil around the rear main seal which is really good, but the pan will have to removed.

    Valley Cover Gasket

I know you were saying the fel-pro intake manifold gasket is the best but I was reading that the teal gasket is the newer version over the red, but rockauto has the felpro in red and black only, and magnum makes the teal gasket.

    Valley Cover Gasket

Haven't seen anything on them but might change them also while it's apart.

    Valley Cover Gasket

Sweet! Thanks for the heads up.

    Valley Cover Gasket

About to do this on my 2004 5.3L, mine is leaking pretty good from the front. Is the fel-pro the best gasket for the valley cover and intake manifold? Also, thinking about swapping out the knock sensors and possibility the knock sensor harness while I'm in there. Any other ideas that I may have...

    Oil pan gasket leaking?

Here are a few of the spots it's leaking, first is by the starter to the left of the bolt. Above is the driverside between the two bolts Above is with the starter removed to show where it's leaking. There is no oil around the rear main that I can see, so that's the only saving grace.

    Oil pan gasket leaking?

I have the same issue, cleaned area with brake cleaner and let truck run while underneath. My started on drivers side between the two bolts forward of oil filter and also on passenger side at the very back. Haven't changed it yet but it's on the to do list. Only draw back is the front end has to...

    Oil leaks

So I have cleaned and wiped many times, I have two leaks. The drivers side seems to be leaking from the aft lower head to block, which I am going to try tightening the bolt a bit. The passenger side is above the starter, which I will look into this weekend but I think it's the crankshaft...

    Oil leaks

So after many wipe downs and relooks, the top one seems to be the valley pan gasket but still not 100% sure. The bottom leak looks like the oil cooler bypass block off, which I replaced exactly 1 year ago. Looks like it's dripping down and the wind is taking it to both sides from there. Easy fix...

    wandering issue awful!!!!

Mine has the same issue, 2004 Tahoe Z71 143,300 miles, stock height. I've replaced everything on the front end except for the idler arm bracket and the wheel bearings. I've checked the bearings for play up/down movement and nothing. Replaced steering box and I've adjusted it multiple times...
