    Difference on the 4l60

Tail housings should be the same but not 100% sure as there was a one -》 two piece bellhousing design change somewhere along the way. . Definitely not the same between body styles like with a corvette 4l60e tailhousing for instance. They should however be interchangeable.

    Power steering issue help

It's about a $400 tool. Could be useful and pay itself off when used for a shop. I wouldn't have the patience to hook one up. I would have the pump replaced by then. There are adapters to bypass the gear. Also a simple hydraulic pressure gauge from Tractor Supply Co. would perform most of the...

    Hydroboost problems

I'm trying to find out whats wrong with my brakes. When I apply the brake pedal it requires excessive force to bring truck to a stop. It feels like there is not enough power assist. This is the reason why I am testing the hydrobooster. Trying to rule it out as a cause. I am going to take...

    Hydroboost problems

I have read it about 10 times with no help. On the other hand I did find an interesting article. Apparently the hydro-boost is faulty if the brake pedal is slow to return (which I have). Apparently it is due to sticking seals or bad spool valve. So it looks like I am in for a rebuilt unit or...

Power steering mechanical, fluid or air issue?

My '05 Tahoe has been experiencing a moderate whine in the power steering over the past year. I have also been experiencing an increase in steering effort and braking as I have the Hydro-booster. So last year I replaced the p/s pump twice in an attempt to get rid of the whine. That did not...

    Hydroboost problems

Figured it out. I'll leave you guys to imagine my outcome pending removal of the belittling remarks by the admin. However funny you thought they may have been ...they added nothing to this rather important discussion.

    Hydroboost problems

Just found another hydroboost test proceedure. After doing the first test it says to turn the wheel to one of the stops for 5 seconds while idling. Then turn off engine, depress brake pedal and see if there is any power assist. If this works I am going to call it good.

    Hydroboost problems

That's the whole problem. It acts like it has reserve and sometimes it doesn't. Usually only when performing tests. According to the service manual my hydroboost could either be good or bad depending on how you interpret the instructions. I turned off the engine, pumped the brake pedal 4...

    Hydroboost problems

I've already looked in the manuals and also online in other forums. The reason I posted the question is because there is no directly comparable scenario in the troubleshooting literature or elsewhere that I have found. I'm not going to kill anyone being in neutral with the ignition off. Its all...

    Hydroboost problems

Not exactly sure. I will test it again. I might have confused having booster reserve with the engine off and on. I did come to a rolling stop with the engine off I know that...but I will make sure and list the scenario step by step.

    Hydroboost problems

Hey guys I think my hydroboost isn't working correctly. I was on the road going about 45mph and put the truck in neutral. I then stepped on the the brake a few times to deplete the reserve canister for the hydroboost. As expected the brake pedal became hard and the pedal force required to stop...

    Upper control arm

I picked up some thick Sawzall blades for metal. They cut through 1 inch hardened steel so should work well.

    Upper control arm

Can you explain your methos of attack using a torch? The metal surrounding the bushing mounting areas is flimsy really. . very thin. A plasma cutter would seem more precise. Also I have read one post (can't remember if it was here) where someone welded up all portions of the bushing to each...

    Upper control arm

No I have not. I even tried a press and that didn't work either. There are only a few posts on other forums suggesting to cut off the bolts. However clearance is poor for anything other than a cutoff wheel. Iam going to try heat and air hammer. I will try the cut-off wheel as a last resort. I...

What is the proper Trans temp

According to the manual: "The normal operating range is from 180°F to 200°F (82°C to 93°C). At approximately 265°F (130°C), the message center will display a TRANSMISSION HOT message and the transmission will enter a transmission protection mode. When the transmission enters the protection...

What is the proper Trans temp

The trans fluid flows through the radiator and the temperature of the fluid depends upon a few variables. Generally the fluid will heat up as the radiator heats up. It depends on the amount of air flowing over the radiator. If you are going a steady 45mph in 45F outside temps then you are...

Would you use these brake pads?

I think I am about done ordering brake pads online. I ordered the ACDelco pro semi-metallic brake pads and they were rattling around in the box. I already contacted the shipper and they refunded me the price of the item plus $5. Can someone tell me if they would use these pads? They do have...

    Depo still the one?

I think I got mine on eBay but do a search for TYC 12-5100-01 on Amazon. That part number is for the left side. Do a search on TYC's website as well. Just realize that the OEM part is more than likely better certified. Look for CAPA certification. Their moto is "If it isn't CAPA certified, it...

Random pull to LEFT OR RIGHT when braking.

I will check them again. I have one upper control arm that was ordered 6 months ago. Thought I needed it at the time. It may be time to change them out regardless.

Random pull to LEFT OR RIGHT when braking.

Stuff I have replaced within past 2 years: Inner/outer tie rods (mostly OE or ACDelco pro). Hubs (both sides). PS pump, belt, links and bushings. The upper control arms are good. New Moog lower control arms. Torsion bars are good. As for the gearbox. I adjusted by jacking front end off ground...

Random pull to LEFT OR RIGHT when braking.

new i-shaft and had the gearbox out to put new pitman arm on. I tightened it up to spec . When turning left at a stop I am now hearing one or two "thump..thump" coming from left side. Sounds seems to be at midsection of body near torsion bar cross member area. I also hear a tiny squeaking...

    Suspension overhaul recommendations

Yeah I have spent a good bit as well. Can't rightfully say how much I have spent. Has to be right around $3000-$4000. The most expensive items thus far have been the motorized items like fuel pump, alternator, battery, lights steering wheel controls, various sensors, HVAC controls, light bulbs...

Random pull to LEFT OR RIGHT when braking.

Hey Jim. Nah...no road crown, tire pull, alignment issues or bent wheels....etc. None of that. This happens on any stretch of straight and level road. Totally unpredictable. One minute it will brake fine coming to a stop. Then the next stop light it will pull to the right. The next stop light it...
