    Timing chains

For a sec my brain played games with me, I read it as "Doorman is a very good poor quality" lols yeah I avoid doorman for almost everything, I replaced my rear end pinion yoke and seal with a doorman unit and seal, and it leaked within a week in my way to work, I was so mad, lucky for me I have...

Curious where were you seeing the units for sale? Oh, I got mine from BETperformance, Not the cheapest one but at least you know what you will be getting Here I Think this is the one that would fit our tahoes...

    P0455 Code, where to look?

When it comes to EVAP problems they can be hard to diagnose, especially if you don't have things like a smoke machine or one of those expensive computers, so I've always replaced the inexpensive things first before getting into the more expensive ones, that or get it diagnosed for 100-150 at a...

Tapping sound when turning wheel left and right.

It could be several things, I would check the entire suspension, it could be as simple as a loose cross member bolt, UCA bolt, Torsion bar mount bushing or even a body mount. get under it an make sure everything is torqued to spec, That would be the second thing I would do, after a visual...

    Steering

I used something similar every time I would turn, I had this thud sound when turning it felt like the knuckles were being softly tapped with a hammer multiple times when coming in and out of turns, Jacked it up and it ended up being pitman, arm, and idler arm bracket. That is why it is important...

    My 'Hoe smells like gas

When I had something similar that was one of the first things I checked but then I realized I don't live in the north thank god, visual inspection is a good start if there are no codes.

    P0455 Code, where to look?

Do you get pressure build up after parking from a trip and taking the gas cap off? Do you smell fuel gas in the air after driving it and coming out of it? I had the same exact symptoms as yours at the beginning with no check engine light, replaced the gas cap with a AC DELCO one, to no avail, I...

8.5 diff tear down and rebuild

From what I've gathered regarding the G80, it is cheaper to buy a rebuilt updated version than to try to even bother to open your current one up and go through the pain, Also if your gears are chewed those are not even worth getting to replace due to price unless you are into that :p But if...

    My 'Hoe smells like gas

I had something similar on mine, but I had an evap code about tightening the fuel cap/large leak, replaced the fuel cap to a new OEM one that didn't fix it. At that time I also noticed that my charcoal canister was covered in transfer case fluid, I had previously worked on my transfer case due...

    Tracking mysterious single pop/clunk SOLVED

It wasn't too bad, once you loose the old mounts you are set. You just need to cut the isolators to shape for it to fit around the base of the bushing.

8.5 diff tear down and rebuild

For the one I did out of the car it was easier, those 10 bolts are easy to remove and install. For the ones I did in jackstands I placed a big 6 ton jack stand in each side of the axle in between the shockmount and the spring perch trying to distribute the weight into the springs. Plus 2 extra...

8.5 diff tear down and rebuild

I feel bad for you, the odds of not one but both sons of b#$ to fail on you, that truck has a deathwish. I don't mind tackling a rear end since those are fairly straightforward. Now an 8.25 I would just cry and would just get a used one, those look like a royal pain in the butt to do. my hats...

8.5 diff tear down and rebuild

Even if you could get away reusing it I would rather not, they have seen better days and are pretty much shot. Oh no I was joking about how the roller bearings. They are just beat to death, and deformed. I wonder how they came out of the cage and races though. Since you said you found them...

8.5 diff tear down and rebuild

I would be willing to bet you it was only serviced once because the previous owner felt something wasn't right, so he decided to change his oil, that shall take care of all the growling and weird noises, right? Are you taking us into the ride when you rebuild this one? its a lot to ask but it...

What is this noise/clunk in my drivetrain? Slip Yoke?

there is suppose to be play there, from when you go over bumps or objects/flex. Make sure you check if there is play in the differential yoke in and out, that would be more of a concern aside from the banging in the front.

    Tracking mysterious single pop/clunk SOLVED

UPDATE: In case any of you ever experience this problem, It turned out that the TSB listed above was correct. Installed 1 insulator in the first 2 body mounts of each side in the front, and also double checked the lower control arms, torqued them to 130 ft lbs and they needed that tiny bit more...

    Oil pan gasket replacement

I did mine and it took me a lot longer than I thought or would like to admit, but this was my first one in a 4x4, I was able to remove the pan from the floor, I got away with just letting the front diff hang on its own and used a pry bar to get a little extra clearance, I believe I had a jack...

Missing Bracket on Quarter Panel Fender Flare for Molding ('05 Tahoe Z71)

From what I know OEM fender flares were discontinued a long time ago, and you would be lucky to locate those tabs separate from a flare, Either find a z71 in a junkyard and install it to the flare you have, or get the z71 flare and paint it to color match your truck. I de-flared mine, because...

DYi press in bushings for front control arms?

Jesus Christ! I did my upper bushings not too long ago, and its a pity to remove the old rusted ones off! That is putting it lightly, To remove even with a press requires some adjustment abd creativity, They wont straight up fit into it to remove. I had to use my press in reverse to make it...

    Spare tire troubles ?????

Pretty common it seems, Mine is also stuck. I have to manually go down there and have someone turn that cable while I wiggle it to come down with care. I dont even carry a spare down there anymore because of this, I just throw it in the rear.

What is this noise/clunk in my drivetrain? Slip Yoke?

Yeah definitely looks like its banging inside there, Never thought it could get that loud! I would inspect it and see what it looks like, sounds like metal on metal and dry to me. I would try greasing it and see if that helps, if its still there I would be looking into a junkyard, or new slip...
