Bad cats are not very hard to detect. Check out South Main Auto on YouTube and search for cat videos for some examples.
I have successfully diagnosed bad cat converters on 3 cars now after those cars had had new O2 sensors, seals, pumps... the parts cannon. Everyone wants to avoid the cats...
Fluid is full, no leaks. 3-2 downshift is as normal as I have the information for... it'll manually downshift from 3-2 and if I need to go from 3-2 in driving it does it just fine. I'm not going to say it's the fastest action, but it's an ancient transmission design... not a Porsche.
I have...
Check your oil cooler block off plate (if you have that) or oil cooler plate. Those leak.. a lot.
Your oil pan seal could be leaking, too, at the back... which is very common.
You could also have the beginning of a rear main seal leak.
Have fun! Personally, I'd leave it.
Well, what I'm picking up in my research is that it could be a number of things. The 2-3 shift apparently involves a lot of things to work right. One thing apparently overlooked is the servo. If there is wear on the metal parts of the servo, it may not work right causing this issue. I just...
Only when I'm accelerating slow - like in stop and go traffic and I'm not being Boy Race Driver - my transmission (once hot) will almost skip shift from 2nd to 3rd. Like it comes out of 2nd for sure but then sort of revs up some then finally 3rd catches. There's no jolt or bangs -- it's smooth...
When I got my truck, it had an EverStart Maxx MAXX-78S battery in it with 650cca made 9/2018. I recently replaced my alternator (the bearings were going and it was making an annoying noise) and decided to try and warranty the battery because it was within the free 3-year replacement period and...
Get the Tahoe. The old Escalades didn't age well and those extra tacked on panels... I see them missing or falling off of old Escalades all the time. Otherwise they aren't really any different except different interior and a fancier engine cover.
The 4WD variants have of course more than can...
I have a Pioneer MVH-1400NEX. The only thing I don't like is the lack of a knob for volume, but otherwise it's got the Carplay and the backup camera option and I have an amp hooked up with some upgraded (although... oddly harsh for a silk dome tweeter) speakers. It doesn't have Android Auto...
Take it for at least 20-30 examples of slow acceleration through 2nd and 3rd gear. My transmission started getting confused only on light pedal acceleration at this time and then all of a sudden it started slipping in reverse and soon after would feel like it comes out of converter lock while...
A lack of spark reconnecting a negative terminal is not indicative of much, if anything. The spark tends to come from a sudden draw of power to charge capacitors throughout the car's electrical system.
Battery drain testing should yield (once all latent electronics turn off) no more than .05 amps. That or less and you're fine.
I would also caution on leaning toward a new alternator. I went through two Remy 145 amp alternators in the past few weeks. Both whined like crazy out of the box and...
I'm not going to say that's "normal" but that is extremely common. I've never come across an old NNBS that didn't have this kind of dead play, some worse than others. I managed to get rid of most if it with my third AC Delco rebuild box (I exchanged them twice) and I had to do some...
There is no process more annoying than brake bleeding IMHO, so I just take any car I need that done to my race car's shop and let someone else do it and happily pay them money. Time is money, y'all.
I got my bump stops off of eBay or Amazon, one of the two. It was like $20 for the front and the back (all of which were toast on my truck). They're doing just fine and fit perfectly.
I had an almost same situation occur. My water pump gasket failed. It's as if one day it was fine, the next day it was dumping the coolant tank on the ground. I couldn't drive 30 miles before I was getting a low coolant warning.
I used the following parts for the water pump:
- Melling MWP500...
