Best oil for 100K + engines?
I would say yes. I've switched used cars I purchased with over 100K miles to synthetic and had no issues that I didn't have prior to switching. The only thing with synthetic oil is that if you have a leak it will leak a little more, if you didn't have a leak previously then you might develop...- Wake

It should work. Most of the CAN enabled scanners are backward compatible with our older ODBII vehicles. Most if not all GM switched to CAN from the Class II databus in 2006. I have an Actron that I use on my 07 Saturn Sky and my roomate's 99 Chrysler Cirrus and it works for both.- Wake

Poor gas mileage question
Maybe bad gas? If the CEL is blinking while the engine is under load it's having a problem with the ignition cycle. It could be bad gas, worn plugs, bad wires, maybe even an O2 sensor that might need to be replaced with high mileage. Also cat converters when they go bad they keep the...- Wake

Smelly air from vents?
I haven't looked into this yet on the Escalade, but my previous Cadillacs and a couple of other vehicles had an afterblow function you could turn on in the computer. If your vehicle was shut down with the A/C on and the outside temp was more than 80 degrees then the fan would run for 10 minutes...- Wake

New to the Forum, just bought an '04 Escalade EXT
Do the wires for sure at that mileage, the plugs might be ok though. At 83K miles my plugs were just fine, the wires though needed changing. There isn't much to tune up on modern vehicles.- Wake

clunking/rattling noise
Just get a new one next time. They're cheap enough, around $65 if I remember correctly. I had mine replaced on my 05 Escalade as part of the purchase due bill due to the clunk on the test drive. It fixed the problem, but I'm told it will probabaly start doing it again in about 50K miles.- Wake

change the fluids. Change the engine oil, and you probably should change the trans fluid as well. I'm not sure of your setup but if you don't have an external trans fluid cooler then it run through your radiator and without coolant it likely cooked. Trans fluid start to break down above...- Wake
