I apologize if this was said already, but google “encoder ring” for the Tahoe. This will cause intermittent illumination of the incorrect 4x4 setting, no light at all, and the intermittent service 4x4 light. Then some times it will work fine.
If all else fails, this is a really easy and cheap...
I agree! Everything I run is OEM in all my cars with the exception of the Shell Rotella antifreeze in my 7.3l diesel. Ford used their "gold" brand but it was only bc they used it in so many different applications but it was not the BEST to use and had higher maintenance intervals.
OEM sometimes...
I believe so. I'm new to the forum and a bit of a Luddite... (Poor with new technology)
I was inquiring about the third post down from the OP's post.......the video of the blue tahoe/suburban.
That thing sounds mean!!
Details of that set up PLEASE! That sounds SO awesome!!!
I used to have a 5.0 stroked to 331 with a supercharger, water meth cooled and nitrous injected that sounded like that!
Now I live in the mountains where it snows often and need a 4x4.
I'd love to have 2003 Tahoe sound like that!!
It's not that I think 5w30 will add anything that tranny fluid won't, I was only asking to see if anyone knew anything about it.
I ended up following the oem guide. It just sure is interesting that there are so many variations for oil and applications. It makes me wonder if oem recommends a...
Thanks for the replies. I'll dig a little deeper and maybe call some tranny shops who rebuild those T-cases and pick their brain.
I guess I just don't understand what the limiting factor would be in the T-case that would harm it by running 5w30 oil. Would it be too viscus for the oil pump...
I believe I have the same T-case
In this video the author sites a editor of Transmission weekly name's Mike Weinberg who recommends using 5w30 in the transfer cases. Seems better than thin tranny fluid. I realize it's recommended from GM to use ATF but would 5w30 hurt anything?
Hey everyone!
I just picked up a 2003 Tahoe LS and am slowly going thru and doing routine maintenance begining with the fluid changes first.
I realize fluids can be very specific for each application but is it so for our transfer cases?
I realize GM recommends Dex III but recently I have...
Thanks for the follow ups! Keep updating us!
I'm having a similar issue. The 4x4 works when it works (usually after re starting the car) but the buttons seem to illuminate randomly and some times never at all.
A couple times I have shut the car off in 2hi and minutes later restart it and...
