It's on the back side of the motor under the intake. People will try and tell you that you can't get to it with out taking off the intake, but I did it on my 2002 suburban many years ago. It is a pita though.

I have heard of it happening. I have personally never had that problem and I have ran K&N in all of my vehicles for many years.
Did your plugs look clean when you changed them out? (Oil consumption?) Have you ever changed out your intake gaskets?

I spent 160 on my oem fans. Then if you go a cheaper tuning route it will be like 250. That is a whole lot cheaper than replacing an engine.

I did an e fan conversion on my 02 suburban and honestly I think it would have been cheaper and less of a headache if you would have gone with oem replacement fans and a tune. I did mine over 3 years ago and the only problem I have had was my fuses blew. Witch is a easy fix.

You should be able to take off a valve cover and see. Iirc comp cams makes some of the best trunion replacements for not that bad of a price.

They are the bearings that locate the rockers. If the end caps come off (the common problem) the needle bearings may fallout resulting in a valve not fully opening.
Are you tuned? That is how I found out about intake leaking. It is not that hard to pull off. Even a complete novice can do it under 2hours, and that's being generous. Z71tahoe-suburban has good write ups you can fallow.

Try to find a duraburb for sale. They don't come cheap. They have a YouTube channel if you want to see the quality of their work. If I had the money there would be no doubt I would do it. And to be able to get the gas mileage and power of the diesel there is no question about it.
