    Rear brake upgrade

GMT800 is the body style 99-07.5 trucks and 00-06 SUVs. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/GMT800 My 99 Silverado has rear, single piston rotors. I'm planning on swapping a 2kxx axle from a 2014 truck, mainly for axle strength upgrade. But I have discovered the newer axle has larger rotors (still...

    4l80e direct clutch feeplay

Did you replace the direct piston? Maybe the seal got folded back when you installed it? Was that transmission overhauled at some point before? I've only rebuilt two of these units (both 95 models) and what either one of them lacked, was the cushion plate for the intermediate clutch. There...

Manual transmission swap 03 yukon denali

Manual transmission swap has been done before. So yeah, it's possible. Probably a NV4500?

Oil leak but I don't know what the thing is called.

Yes. The block off plate has a large o ring as was posted above. The one with the actual cooler has 2 o-rings, for the out and in lines. With that setup, the oil goes into the radiator (radiator also has 2 line fittings on the driver's side.) It was more like a towing package option, I think.

High RPM while Light Towing & Upgrade Transmission?

So what is the total towing weight? I'm assuming you are within the GVWR and GCWR of your vehicle. Towing in 3rd (on the 4Lxx transmissions) is the preferred gear when getting up there on the towing capacity. Driving in 3rd will basically be like you have a steeper gear ratio. 80 MPH towing...

    Bought core block

Hard to tell. Does it catch your fingernail? I think that's going to be fine. I wouldn't really worry about it. Are you asking about measuring bearing clearances? I assumed the machine shop already did that? If not, plastiguage from AutoZone is really the best way.

Copper Clad Aluminum wire on an auxiliary battery installation

I didn't know they had that for battery cables. I have used that copper clad for speaker wires before (in-wall). And aluminum wire is still used in main feeders and stuff like that on buildings, just not individual branches like they used in the old days. My main panel to detached garage...

    Bought core block

I'm assuming you are talking about setting the thrust bearings? I used the smacking the crankshaft. It's the method that the author of this book does: https://a.co/d/1iKGrYb I believe he is a mechanical engineer of some sort fwiw. But you are right, I've seen a video on YT someone just using a...

    Bought core block

Here's my adventure on my recent rebuild. I encourage you to see the PDF reference on post #18. Although different displacement, the overall specs should still apply to your engine. https://www.tahoeyukonforum.com/threads/tty-head-bolts-with-engine-in-vehicle.147231/page-2 I hope this helps.

2004 Tahoe - Time for a new engine and transmission?

Sounds like a good plan. Regarding the transmission, that's probably an independent transmission shop so you can also get a warranty. I wouldn't think any shop would do both engine and transmission in-house (it would be great if there was such a place though.)

    Bought core block

Oh, I'm sure you know this, but when you torque the main cap bolts to the first torque pass, you are supposed to smack the crankshaft back and then forward a few times each with a dead blow hammer (to seat the thrust bearings). Then proceeded with the final torque-to-angle specs. Then you...

    Bought core block

Very nice! Main cap bolts can be reused. They are torque -to-angle (not to be confused with torque-to-yield, TTY.) Just clean them up, as well as the threads on the block. And apply a bit of oil to them when reinstalling them. Side bolts should be replaced (I believe that's what GM advices...

Im thinking its heater core time

I can't remember exactly. My "mechanic" is also a friend/relative that works out of his house, so not a real shop. I think he charged me $500 and had the truck like 2 weeks because he had other vehicles he was also working on (I bought the part from RA, which was another $175 or so.) I would say...

Lake Speed Jr, Oil Additives = Snake oil (video)

Eh, I guess I get your point, but you really can't compare the two. 1970s (way before my time) engines were basically done at 100k miles. I do remember folks talking about taking cars to a mechanic for a compression test when buying used cars in the 90s as kid. "High mileage" was 75k miles back...

Im thinking its heater core time

Sorry to hear that. Unfortunately, it's one of the common issues on this generation. Had it go out in my 1999 Silverado (back like in 2010) and on my 06 Suburban (2 years ago). Both times my mechanic did the work. You could bypass the heater core by disconnecting the lines near the firewall and...

Lake Speed Jr, Oil Additives = Snake oil (video)

One interesting point that he makes in the video (or maybe another one of his videos?) is friction and wear are 2 separate things Increasing friction can actually decrease wear. Decreasing friction can actually increase wear. You would think that decreasing friction also decreases wear, but...

    Engine issues

Well, start by replacing the fan clutch if it's not working...and go from there. Welding a washer/nut on the broken bolt works. I've done this before, but on engines that have been out of the vehicle or heads on workbench. You can remove the wheel plastic shield and tire and get a direct...

    Stripped head bolt hole

I was also wondering if the right angle drills would be of any help. Like the slower RPM used by electricians/plumbers for drilling holes between studs. They are high torque/low rpm. What kind of head bolts were you using? Did you clean the bolt holes? I took a few old head bolts and cut some...

I want to convert the conventional steering to rack and pinion on an 01 GMC Yukon. Help please!

It would help to tell us why you are thinking about doing this. I don't know the answer or if it's even possible, but maybe someone here knows. The early GMT800 2wd trucks have rack and pinion, 4x4 got gearbox. I'm pretty sure it's related to coil spring vs torsion bars suspension differences...

    2001 Chevy Tahoe Wiring Harness

Cool. Hopefully you can source a nice clean harness. The engine/transmission harness actually does not go into the cab or cluster. There's like 3-4 connectors at the fuseblock for the engine/transmission harness (4x4 models have an extra connector the T-case) and the other main connection is at...
