What did you do to your NBS GMT800 Tahoe/Yukon Today?

Bought a Ferd Edge (2008) for my son this weekend. He's 16 and totaled his Escape. The Edge is beautiful, like pristine. Some little old lady absolutely loved on it forever, it's got some high miles (177k), but it is SOOO much nicer than my Tahoe. My wife told me to keep it for myself since we...

What did you do to your NBS GMT800 Tahoe/Yukon Today?

Man I wish I had a place to work on mine, I'd love to do my own work. Front end, etc. Would be great to learn and play around, do some various mods. My garage is way too small, though. And I don't have a flat spot except out on the street, and I ain't tearing my truck apart on the street. :(

2003 Tahoe coolant system leak or head gasket leak?

No, that is looking over the engine compartment from the driver's headlight area. Battery in that shot is directly under the bottom of the picture. There's also a second battery on the passenger side up by the firewall, an Odyssey AGM. I have since separated out my stereo electrical and vehicle...

2003 Tahoe coolant system leak or head gasket leak?

Big Three upgrade is always a good idea on any vehicle, if you ask me. Here's what mine looks like: Slightly more modest on my 370Z: lol

2003 Tahoe coolant system leak or head gasket leak?

It's not really bad wear - it's expected glazing after this many miles. I wouldn't expect good crosshatching with this many miles. As @MassHoe04 noted above, I don't think you should worry about it. It ran, there were no signs or symptoms of trouble with the block, leave it alone.

2003 Tahoe coolant system leak or head gasket leak?

https://dannysengineportal.com/cylinder-bore-deglazing-purpose-crosshatch-roughness-and-angle/ Yours look to be pretty smooth and 'glazed'. This is what you want, from what I understand: This is what he meant, I'm not sure too much if this is something you should go tearing into, since...

    Electric Fan Conversion activation

If you can get someone to program it for you cheaply, it's a quick thing, as far as I know. I have an 04 Tahoe and have HP Tuners, but I really don't feel comfortable doing someone else's computer and messing it up, as I haven't really 'learned' for myself yet, either.

Lets talk aftermarket alarms and bypass modules

I have the window modules - I wouldn't recommend them. I seldom ever used them, and they have developed problems and now are preventing me from using my windows. I won't add them in the future.

question on ordering front wheel bearing

Here's another video about Timken selling a bearing made by someone else - that was bad out of the box. Dangit. SKF anyone?

4 Piston Big Brake Upgrade from 2019-20

I had the '19-'20 test caliper making its rounds on here shipped to me, and I shipped it onwards to someone else. I think it was about $25 or so. I guess I'm curious about if this '19-'20 upgrade is a significant improvement over the NNBS '07+ upgrade? I mean, my truck doesn't have the...

question on ordering front wheel bearing

I'll give you the low down - this guy replaced his OEM hub on a Hummer H3 with a Moog, went bad 1000 miles later, replaced again, went bad AGAIN around the same time, replaced with Timken after some more research. I'm not an expert, and am only researching myself, but this video did make me...

question on ordering front wheel bearing

Timken is what I've found from my research is a good choice - supposedly they manufacture FOR GM.

Rebuiding my front end - upgrades?

Ok, so I've got a couple of preliminary things put together. Option #1. Complete front end rebuild. $1,136 parts/~$1200 labor = approx $2300-2500 L/R Upper and Lower Control Arms - Moog CK line L/R Inner & Outer Tie Rods - AC Delco Gold Pitman arm, Idler arm and Idler arm bracket - Moog HD line...

Rebuiding my front end - upgrades?

No he had estimated $950 to do the two ball joints and the hub - including the parts. (The first place I went wanted $1500, I think for 3 ball joints and one hub or bearing). Then when I went and picked it up, I asked him about if I got all the parts how much to do a complete front end rebuild...

    Touch screen upgrade

I retained my factory controls and installed a 10.1" Android headunit. No need overcomplicate things, and I'd be surprised if you're going to find a way to control your factory HVAC with an aftermarket unit. The NBS just doesn't have the same level of electronics as some other vehicles. And...

Rebuiding my front end - upgrades?

Ok, The Wife says to go ahead. We're taking a trip to south TX in 3 weeks over Spring Break and her RAV4 isn't big enough for us all to be comfortable hauling all our crap to sustain use for 8-9 days and the dog. So it's on like Donkey Kong. But now I'm feeling guilty about spending a ton, as...

4 Piston Big Brake Upgrade from 2019-20

Can't hardly find this stuff in OEM - RockAuto only has rear calipers, all the GM Parts stores I've found say they're discontinued or unavailable - Amazon has the pass front, but it's doubled in price, opportunism from someone who bought a bunch, is my guess. Supply chain issues? Can't get...

Rebuiding my front end - upgrades?

Actually when I was under there the other day, they didn't look bad at all. I was surprised they looked ok. Like my body bushings. But... if I'm gonna rip things out and have them replaced... why not? I think I can get purchase approval from The Wife, so I should exploit while I can, right???? lol

Truckin' and Lunch today on the Redneck Riviera

This is my view this afternoon from my front porch: That's not snow, that's sleet - and 11ºF. It was 71ºF 48 hours ago. <sigh>

Rebuiding my front end - upgrades?

I guess my question is - if the major suspension components LOOK good, i.e., stabilizer bar, upper and lower control arms, etc., should I go ahead and replace them with the idea that they're almost 20y old and are weakened over time, or just replace the stabilizer bar linkages, the ball joints...

Right, from watching some videos, Pittman arm and idler arm sure look like a bit of a PITA.

Rebuiding my front end - upgrades?

So I took my truck to another brake and alignment shop this morning. Told the guy the story about the other shop wanting to do 3 ball joints and a wheel hub, then my mechanic checking them and he thought they were ok. He asked if he lifted it on the control arms or the frame, I think? I can't...

    1999-2018 GM 1500 Series Wilwood TX6R 6-Piston 16" BBK #140-13876-R "Partial Kit" w/ New & Used Parts

Man I'd love to jump on this, but with the additional stuff I would need, I've got other things I need to focus on first. <sigh> I guess I'll just do the '20 Silverado upgrade when the time rolls around. Good luck, man, this is an incredible deal, and I'm sure it won't last long!

Rebuiding my front end - upgrades?

They try to claim it's a safety issue and they could be liable, blah blah blah. Bottom line is, if it drives in, it can drive out. They may have made me sign a waiver, I dunno. But considering I've had it inspected by my own trusted mechanic and he said it was fine, AND I've been driving it for...
