Pulling off the Perfect NP246 Transfer Case Rebuild

Yeah I watched that video when I built mine. He's using the tool, I need to figure how how to do it without the tool. The last one I did I just measured the old clutch pack and made sure new one was same thickness (or really close). On this one I suspect the clutch pack is wrong as the spacer...

Pulling off the Perfect NP246 Transfer Case Rebuild

I've been staring at my core. The tcase I bought to use while I was rebuilding mine. It's been sitting completely disassembled on my bench since I finished this project. I think it's time to clean up my garage and get parted out, or rebuilt and sold. The one thing that held me back from...

NP246 Auto 4wd Transfer Case Owners Beware!

I just rebuilt mine. Had 250k miles on it. Thankfully never worked that hole in it. There's a little metal clip the factory puts on between the case and the pump. This is to keep the pump from rubbing through the case. However, that clip doesn't always stay in place, or hold up. it's not much of...

Help me diagnose my power door locks please

Dang these door lock actuators are $$$$ RockAuto has their "economy" options which I seldom if ever buy, it's $28.79 otherwise Looks like $118.89 for a "daily Driver" quality. The first is a "Shee-mar" brand. Never heard of it. The second is "Standard Motor" which I've never purchased. Is...

Swapping Gen 2 dash to Gen 3?

Yeah it's sad. Hopefully we can come up with some awesome ways to make this stuff last / reinforce and rebuild it. I've had no luck on the dash. I feel like every time I take it apart I make it worse. Need to figure out what that foam is they use on the bottom of some of the dashes. Would make...

Swapping Gen 2 dash to Gen 3?

I like the idea. The stuff for houses? I wonder if they make an automotive application. I really need to go talk to them at the body shop supply store. My corvette is built with that stuff already on the dash. It's so awesome. Anybody who knocks quality of C5 doesn't know what they're talking...

Swapping Gen 2 dash to Gen 3?

@tooleyondeck thanks for the tips. I'd not thought much about putting in the higher trim level / Denali dash. I've no experience taking those apart Did they build those dashes better? I've dismantled and put back together a handful of these GMT800 dashes now. Including tearing mine completely...

Swapping Gen 2 dash to Gen 3?

Built up rest of truck though and like the older body style. I'd have to get rid of the drivetrain I built up. I have somewhere around $10,000 in parts put in the engine, trans, and diff so far, plus my labor. Works AWESOME, lest the horrifically bad dash and crappy door panels. I think somebody...

Swapping Gen 2 dash to Gen 3?

Has anybody done this? I'm not even sure if is possible... I have completely rebuilt my truck, even tried to restore the interior. But I cannot kid myself, the interior on these trucks is absolute heaping pile of junk, lest the seats. The trim is all low grade plastic and cheap connectors. GM...

Help me diagnose my power door locks please

Yeah I was thinking of getting all new actuators. Probably worth it, or at least cleaning them if is possible. One thing I like much better about the next body style from the NBS, gen 2 Tahoe is the better door seals.

Help me diagnose my power door locks please

I am having same problem. I will check the door connector by a and b pillars. I've actually refurbished most of the truck, re-taped and checked most of the harnesses. I know I've done the inside of the doors, and disconnected the harnesses to take the doors off... I'll double check the pillar...

    Strut mounts replaced correctly?

Thanks! I got it all figured out. Forgot to post solution. I called MeVotech (the maker of the strut mount. They explained everything in complete detail. I have to say, I LOVE Mevotech parts. They've been awesome, of the best I can find for normal and heavy duty use (my offroad rig). And their...

Copy PCM to swap in a new one with Tech 2?

Welp I was able to wire up the VCX Nano to the instrument cluster. I think it is working, but the PCM Hammer for IPC isn't compatible with whatever is on this cluster form the looks of it. Unless I did something wrong. I simply did Pin 2 OBD2 connector to Pin A11 on the cluster for serial data...

Copy PCM to swap in a new one with Tech 2?

I tore apart my cluster again... Bench tested it with a 10vpp square wave going to the speedometer pin A7. Removed all modules not related to the gauge to see if one was interfering. I also gently pressed on the board in various spots to see if possibly a trace or via broke or delaminated...

Copy PCM to swap in a new one with Tech 2?

Yes positive it's in the cluster. I can power up just the cluster and it shows the mileage. Is there a tutorial or something on PCM hammer for programming clusters? Found the code https://github.com/mikebb203/IPC-Hammer

Copy PCM to swap in a new one with Tech 2?

Well I was successful in cloaning my PCM. Unfortunately, PCM wasn't the issue. It's the cluster that's gone bad. Having a heck of a time finding a new instrument cluster for a 1999 C5 Corvette Hardtop though. It dawned on me though, even when I get a new cluster I'll need to update it with my...

Copy PCM to swap in a new one with Tech 2?

Cool, I think I see on the pinout for the harness that there's a serial data line. I assume I hook the scan tool up to that serial data line and power the cluster... Last cluster I did wasn't one of these newer style. It didn't have any serial data line.

Copy PCM to swap in a new one with Tech 2?

I hotwired the PCM to the cluster. Monitored VSS Output with Oscope, as well as used a scan tool to see what computer said speed was. I then sent a sine wave in for the VSS input. Everything worked like a champ BUT the cluster. I am searching for a new cluster now... Will that Tech 2 win allow...

I cannot for life of me get a bench programmer to work. Where am I going wrong... Blue connector C1 & OBD2 Connector GROUND: PCM Pin 1, OBD2 Pin 4 & 5 12.6v: PCM 20, OBD2 16 12.6v switched: PCM 19 Serial Data: OB2 2, PCM 58 I'm using DC power supply. PCM is pulling 0.39A @13.1V PCM hammer...

Copy PCM to swap in a new one with Tech 2?

I fried my PCM years ago in my 1994 Z28. Had to send it out to get it redone. That said, HP tuners is awesome. Never had slightest issue but I make sure laptop is well charged (even plugged in) and the battery is good. Seems PCM hammer may not be fully tested.

Hopefully they approve my account soon. I'd love to share what happened. I couldn't' find any posts with similar issues. I used PCM Hammer v21. Tried searching for older versions but wasn't having much luck.

Reading the PCM with PCM Hammer triggered the Theft Deterrent System. It's locking out my fuel. I get trouble code: 0x10: P1626 - Theft Deterrent Fuel Enable Signal Not Received (Current, History) I don't know how to clear this out... Trying to sign up for a PCM Hacking forum where all the...

FML... Okay I finally figured out where the Passthrou was. Yeah it was in the VX manager. I am testing everything on my 2001 Tahoe (same computer type)... I connected to PCM with PCM Hammer. Went to tools -> Read Entire PCM and downloaded the PCM to my computer. That seemed to work fine. Then...
