    Tires and leveling

I'd look at a 285/70r17 - this is a very common 33" size that will work with cranked keys.

New torsion keys, do I also need the bars?

The bars may have sagged some, but not necessarily "worn out". Yes, I would just get some lift keys and set it at the height you desire. Remember, you will need to get a front end alignment after adjusting the front ride height. Do some research - not all front end alignments are created equal...

Trailblazer torque converter with a 5.3?

No, think I'll hang into it. Sorry!

Can I use the “better 2011” hydroboost?

Curious who says it's better - I've had 4 hydro boost gmt800s and never had an issue. Highest mileage is 270k and gaining. Sounds more like low quality reman units which is unfortunately. Quite common for anything reman at this point.

Which is best fuse to pull for anti-theft?

You're going to have a bad time welding exhaust with a stick welder - burns too hot. Not a bad idea to preemptively swap a set of universals and sell your stock converters. GM set usually worth $150-300 depending on the numbers. Pays for the $70 to order a set of universals and the cost to have...

What did you do to your NBS GMT800 Tahoe/Yukon Today?

Forgot to take any pictures, but went to swap 28 spline to 32 spline input on a manual shift transfer case to put in the 2500. Got the input gear popped into the planetary set and found the pilot bearing for the main shaft is smaller than what was originally in the tcase. Had a buddy who's a...

    99-06 vs 07-13?

I've owned both. I prefer the gmt800s for several reasons. Many of them are personal preference - the look, the feel of the seats, etc. Some of them are mechanical. AFM/DOD is a big one. Big ticket item to mechanically remove, which I did on the '07 Silverado I had (dad bought when new, kept...

    E-Fan Wire, Solder or Connectors?

Skip out on the wego's you've ordered. I don't recommend them in any application, but particularly terrible in automotive applications because of the vibrations. Solder and heat shrink (when using good heat shrink that seals itself - you'll see a little "goo" come out of the ends) is optimal...

Need your break-in skills 2003 Chevy 4x4 Sierra.

The vats system only picks up a sensor in the ignition cylinder to confirm the cylinder has rotated to prevent the vehicle being hotwired. There is no transponder in the GMT800s. That's why car thiefs can just hammer a screwdriver into the ignition cylinder and force it to rotate starting the...

Need your break-in skills 2003 Chevy 4x4 Sierra.

Ah, absolutely right. I forgot the couple I've done this to I had to destroy the cast aluminum housing. It can be done, but you'll have to get another if ition assembly/housing from a junk yard.

Adjustable Panhard bar hits aftermarket dif cover with 3-4" lift

Would a drop bracket make any difference? Seems like the issue is your diff cover sticking out too far with the larger aftermarket panhard, so moving the panhard up/down won't help - it needs to move in/out to gain clearance. Correct? If that's the case then there are a couple options. One is...

Need your break-in skills 2003 Chevy 4x4 Sierra.

Once you get into the vehicle, you can remove the ignition cylinder. Take all the pins out of it and reinstall it, then you can start it with a blank key or any other key. There is no chip in the gmt800s.

    Help needed. 03 Tahoe

11.5 is a bit low. Get your battery charged up and see if that helps any. Clean the battery terminals while you're in there, dirty connections can create all kinds of weirdness. Don't torque them down crazy tight. Just good and snug. Get a voltage reading with the truck running as well, should...

    Suspension from Walmart?

I've had mixed luck with Detroit Axle components. Generally good with an occasional early failure, kinda the same as all new parts now it seems. I order from walmart quite a bit - they became one of my go-to's when I stopped using Amazon. Haven't ordered many auto parts from them, other than...

2017 Yukon XL towing heavy duty caliper upgrade?

I see folks say this sometimes, but really surge brakes work well for what they are. They don't require an onboard electrical system, they are load adjusting, and they are low maintenance. It's more about the driver and their competency towing than it is about the system. As opposed to an EOH...

    2006 Headlight bulb low beam

Does it have projectors or traditional reflectors? If it's projectors, that's a good sign. If it's a traditional reflector design that's a no go. If you've got projectors, it's still important to make sure they are aimed correctly. I've also seen (and had) low quality projectors that are not a...

    2006 Headlight bulb low beam

Good on you for removing the LEDs. Blinding as I'll get out; it's a real safety issue for folks with light sensitivities and night time driving issues.

2002 fuel trims loss of power after 2 hours

I concur that this sounds like a fuelling issue. Just had nearly the exact same symptoms on a Silverado which ended up being a weak fuel pump.

    2500/3500 Upper Control Arm PSA!

The set on the first truck was, I believe, Detroit Axle. The second truck I do not know - I inherited the truck with the UCAs already changed. Detroit is just a reseller, so there are likely to be many companies that sell the same UCA with this issue. Replacement UCAs do come with ball joints...

    2500/3500 Upper Control Arm PSA!

Hey all! I've noticed recently, this has happened to me on two trucks, that whatever manufacturer is making "stock" replacement upper control arms for 2500 and 3500 series GMT800s is using non-stock dimension ball joints. On two separate trucks I have gone to replace upper ball joints and...

    05 Tahoe rear diff issue

Your wheels did not cause the issue, nor did leaving off . If you're willing to do some foot work, you can definitely have this issue fixed cheaper. Find a used rear end with the same gear ratio, probably $300-500. Cost to install will be $400-600. I'd ask around and see if there's a reputable...

    I Sank my 2003 Z71 Tahoe

How's the engine sound when it's running on spray? Almost anything will run on ether, not a good diagnostic. Squirt some gas down the intake and try that. If it hydraulic'd the motor while running you very very likely have mechanical damage. I hydraulic'd one on the starter a few months ago...

    Question about center bore sizes

You're talking about a .013" difference between measurements in standard imperial measurements. I'd guess that the wheels are probably machined .005" larger than the hubs to avoid stacking tolerances making a press fit, and a used set may have a bit of wear from install/removal. That spec was...

    Question about center bore sizes

That's more than a little bit of an exaggeration. There's nothing wrong with lug centric wheels as long as no wheel spacers are used, your studs and lug nuts are in good shape, and as long as you are staying within the load rating of the studs.

Your opinion please :) What is the largest and most aggressive rim/tire/offset combination with stock OEM suspension? 2005 Denali XL 1500

If you use spacers, get a good quality set like BORA. At a very minimum make sure they are hub centric. Cheap spacers do break and send your wheel off into oncoming traffic. Your question has different answers - "it depends". Offset has a big effect on maximum tire size. The wider you go, the...
