Sorry for the delay in reply... Close as possible, but not touching. Depending on the sensor, it may or may not need a shim. Your new hub most likely comes with a new sensor pre-installed. If so, there should be no compatibility issues and be a plug-n-play install. -

Great tip! I was actually surprised how easy the bolts on mine backed out. My frame is not the cleanest one on the road and they came out fine. If a lighter zip-tie is used, you can twist the key and snap the tie by hand without too much difficulty. It only needs to carry the weight of the key, so a thin tie would work fine to keep it secured to whatever it is attached to... That is a possibility. Crusty surface can create enough of a gap to make the sensor go too far out of range. Some sensors ship with or need shims to make sure they are not grinding on the tone ring. There is also a possibility that an old shim is stuck on the hub. If the new one has a shim on... -

Very good chance you have a bad ground connection. Inspect, clean and tighten all grounds. Also inspect the battery cables and battery clamp connections. We are fortunate that our keys do not have chips in them! We can get 3 spare keys made at Home Depot for less than $20.
