Is the noise constant? Typically differential noise will change with application of throttle and the release of the throttle. You can also get up to speed (50-55) and then down shift into (3) to create more engine braking. On my Yukon XL, it would make a audible grinding/whining sound that...
It had fluid in it still. Not sure how it was over heated - perhaps someone got it stuck and it cooked the posi. It did look like it had gotten hot. I also noticed above average resistance on the yoke when trying to turn it after I pulled it out.
You'll need around 2.5 quarts. Take the gear oil and put it in the sun or a sink full of hot water for a while. It will make it much easier to fill the diff, along with a small piece of hose if you don't have a fluid pumper. Also check the bottom of the differential to see if it has a drain...
Yes, I know that. However the differential casing is made of aluminum, which is not the best material for a differential case. The metal IS coming from the bearings and gear set, but some believe the actual aluminum casing contributes to the failure of these differentials. Plus these do not...
That's quite a bit of metal. If the diff is still quiet, do a service on it with fresh fluid. Change the fluid again 5k miles later and see how it is. I had my Yukon at the dealer a few days ago. The diff tech said I was on borrowed time and I had less metal than that. He said they fail...
Took four hours to install a replacement from a 2002 Yukon XL by myself with the Yukon on jack stands. Problem solved. You guys sure don't say much on this forum, but hey if you start getting an annoying howl coming from the rear end, well you'll know what needs to be done.
I just picked up my 2000 Yukon XL 1500 SLT 4x4 about two weeks ago... maybe a bit longer. Very clean, good running ride with 142k on it. Took it on a 15+ mile test drive, drove great. No problems for the first week and a half (700+ miles), then on my way to work one morning I started noticing...
Checking the wiring diagrams, it seems the Denali/Escalade DIC used in the 01-02 vehicles needs a Class 2 Serial connection, VSS, and a few other power/ground/lighting connections. Question is, has anyone done this? My vehicle is a 2000 Yukon XL 4wd.
Here's a picture I came up with for the expansion tube. I checked through our product (I work for ALLDATA) and couldn't come up with a solid location. However it's typically located on the passenger side, just aft of the radiator core support.
I'm a new member and just picked up a 2000 Yukon XL 4wd SLT. It's black with the natural tan interior. I really wanted gray, but oh well. It just reminds me so much of my 1994 Caprice 9C1/LT1 I had back in 1997! lol. I bought it as a daily driver / beater - since I have a '08 G8 GT that gets...
