Transmission cooler lines have now been replaced too. These were more of a PITA than I anticipated but got it done this afternoon. I had a leak at both the mating gasket to the side of the transmission as well as one of the crimps.
However my oil leak saga is beginning to look pretty clear as...
Front suspension is all refreshed. New upper and lower control arms, inner and out tie rods, new axles, sway bar end links, and sway bar bushings and had it aligned. Rides a million times better now.
About 300 miles logged now and it has been trouble free since the valley cover gasket. No more oil smell in the cabin, no more smoking, no oil on the coils. I think the valley gasket was so bad that lots of oil was getting out and it was just spraying in the wind all over on the interstate...
Alright, safe to say now that the oil leak I initially posted about here has been solved. It was the valley cover 100%. The gaskets were flat as a pancake and smooth with the surface of the cover. 200 miles of mixed driving now and no oil burning on the manifolds or oil smell into the cabin...
Got it all back together tonight after taking a few days off. Replaced the valley cover with gaskets (a new cover with gaskets + bolts was only $40 from GM via 12598832), intake manifold gaskets (GM 19207929), oil pressure sensor (GM 12677836), plugs + plug wires (ACD 41-162 & 9748RR), fuel...
Got it mostly all cleaned up. Valves look pretty good for 230k. Intake manifold is nasty so I'll need to disassemble it and clean it out thoroughly. I think a catch can will be in my near future.
Pretty sure at this point its the valley pan gasket. The oil is not smoking off the exhaust manifold after all, its dripping onto the cat and appears to be getting onto the top of the valve cover through the intake manifold. Going to pull the intake manifold off and do the valley cover gasket...
Definitely oil unfortunately. I think my valve cover might not be sealed properly. The oil has a spray/spotty looking pattern, so maybe its seeping at the valve cover between Cyl 4 & 6, and then it gets sprayed rearwards with the wind. There is more oil down on the spark plug wires for the rear...
Well it's back again. It's definitely oil on TOP of the rear 2 coils on the passenger side. Where on earth would oil be coming from in that area to get oil on top of those coils?
Finished the job and the excessive smoke (and wetness on the coils) was definitely the coolant Ts dripping down onto the manifold.
Still have a little bit of [blue] smoke coming from the manifold. The smell of burning oil persists, ever so slightly. It's dry on top of the exhaust manifold so...
It looks like you are right. Based on the location it's the only thing that makes sense. The liquid on top of the coils did have a more wet/slimey look to it rather than an oil sheen. And the smoke it was making was white, not blue. So coolant onto the manifold makes even more sense. Thank you...
Replaced the valve cover gaskets, timing cover gasket, oil pan gasket and some other misc items about 500 miles ago. Still had a slight smell of oil but no leaks under the car. Figured it was still just burning off some old oil from the VCG job.
Today it started leaking oil onto the passenger...
