Thanks/Np. Keep an eye on your oil pressure. If it's elevated it could mean coolant in your oil. Mine went from about 20 at idle up to 40 and would hit 60 when driving. Also look for sludge under the oil fill cap. Thinking back now I would say this whole process took about 6 months from no...
Did the truck side connector have that green gasket inside? The one on my Yukon got jacked up and it wouldn't let the module plug in all the way so I had to remove it. I got to find a new one somewhere to prevent water from getting into the mod.
I'm dropping the heads at the machine shop today so I'll know soon enough. I hope not because that would really screw up my budget! No cracks visible by eye. I still haven't found an obvious failure point as to where the coolant leaked in. The head gasket looked terrible and came apart in layers...
Thanks for the replies and advice guys. It's much appreciated. I built this kit from Scoggin Dickey and it look like it has just about everything I need. I don't see pushrods though. Are they supposed to be replaced? Also apparently instead of replacing the Vlom they plug the ports. Unless I'm...
Look like 4 afm lifters and trays are around $300....man I'm torn right now...the solid lifters are as the say.."solid"? You blocked the oil to the solenoids with the collar under the oil pressure sensor?
You guys think the AFM lifters are still prone to failure if they're turned off with a tune or use of a Range disabler? What's the benefit of replacing the trays? They wear out?
Check out the difference between left side and right side. Right side is the suspected failed side. Much cleaner thanks to the steam clean from the burning coolant. Another sign to look foe when you're chasing something like this.
You're right. I'm gonna clean it real good, check for cracks and then drivers side tomorrow. I wish I had the funds to eliminate the AFM but that's not happening. Do you think I should inspect the lifters or just leave them be? I haven't had an issues with them in the past.
I'm thinking most of that coolant spilled in when I took the head off. Cyl 4 is much cleaner than the others. That's the one that was misfiring with coolant on the plug.
Anyone have any advice dealing with the exhaust manifold bolts? I haven't tried them yet but the look rusty and I'm thinking they're gonna be a pain. I was going to use some kind of penetrating fluid but not sure how it can work itself down to the threads.
So I rented the coolant system pressure tester and of course the system stayed solid @ 17lbs with no loss for 2hrs so far. I'm going to leave it on all night and see what happens. I did the test on a cold motor. I pulled the valve cover and found more evidence of coolant in the oil with some...
So I did the leakdown test last night and the Cyl passed. I put 70lbs of air on it and it only leaked down to 66lbs. Is 70lbs enough? I didnt want to push it. So now I have more questions than answers. Since the issue only seems to happen with a completely cold motor I might redo the test first...
Yeah. I was surprised when I checked the sizes and they where 17's. I plan on getting 22" chrome snowflakes for the Suburban and someday maybe getting some kind of black wheels for the Yukon.
Oil on the dipstick actually looks pretty good. Definitely not a milkshake. The stores near me don't rent the leakdown tester so I'm gonna have to buy one. Any suggestions? Harbour Freight has one for $80 and Amazon has one for $25. I don't usually like buying cheap tools though.
You're going to need a scanner or else it will just be guesses as to what's happening. Sometimes the trucks computer will store a code related to the issue but not set off a check engine light. Pretty common issue is if the engine is running poorly for whatever reason it will set off those...
Hey everyone. I've been chasing an intermittent misfire on my 5.3 Suburban that I think I figured out but looking for some advice to confirm. So the truck only misfires first thing in the morning after sitting all night setting off the engine light and the stabilitrack/traction control off...
Thanks for the welcome! You're right. Live in N.J. and work in N.Y. so most of my driving is back an forth from the train station. Plan on rolling with the Burban down to Florida to visit my daughter once I get the misfire straightened out.
