    Oil Pump Compatibility

For sure I look at it like this: If you're at a point where you can decide on minor stuff like the care and feeding of your filter, you're doing pretty darn good! Take care of your ride, and it'll take care of you.

    Oil Pump Compatibility

If that works for you, go for it! But also how dare you assume I don't change my oil in a bog. Maybe I have! Maybe I like to change mine in a sandstorm (dododododo) because it knocks the sun glare down

    Oil Pump Compatibility

Nah not usually. There's a risk of getting grit/debris in there when filling it since you're pouring from the post-filter side Instead, turn the igntion to 'on', wait wait for the DIC to boot up, floor the accelerator for a second or 2, and while keep it it fully depressed, crank the engine...

Immobilizer? Bypass? How safe are these ignitions?

Yeah I don't keep anything of any value in my car I have like.... A dog leash, phone charger, jumper cables, and a couple blankets Hell I don't even lock my car. The damage due to forced entry would exceed anything of value that would be taken. Didn't stop some dingus from goobering up my...

Immobilizer? Bypass? How safe are these ignitions?

Nice So while the thing is far from impossible to steal, it's fiddly and would more be something targeted than standard car prowling, is my understanding is correct?

Immobilizer? Bypass? How safe are these ignitions?

05 Tahoe I'm curious how theft resistant these things are. I.e. can someone break the tabs on the ignition and start it with a screwdriver? Break the wheel lock, connect power, and not wire it? Etc

    Oil Pump Compatibility

Oh yeah... Because I realize saying that "it's fine" to run a high pressure pump without any data is anecdotal at best and misleading at worst... Have an oil test from my rig. Melling m295hv pump w/ the high pressure spring. I don't remember exactly which spring I used.. I could dig it up if...

    Aftermarket Intake trouble shooting MPG

Damn that is some impressive low level control you have on that I guess the easiest thing to differentiate hardware from software at this point would be to load up the stock tune for a tank and see where things land

    2005 Suburban A/C issue

Can be difficult to describe, eh? Hot air as in no ac != hot air as in heat When it acts up, pop the hood and see if the compressor is engaged - it has a clutch. If it's on, you'll see the front of it spinning. If not, then it'll just sort of freewheel like a bicycle. Belt is moving, but the...

    Aftermarket Intake trouble shooting MPG

Notable issues I've seen from aftermarket intakes, in no particular order: - They remove the resonators present in the OE intake tube - Stock intake is already cold air. Pulls air from the wheel well. Depending on how it's routed and where it's located, it could be sucking hot engine air - If...

Copper Clad Aluminum wire on an auxiliary battery installation

Nope don't touch it Stuff isn't suited for under hood use. Copper + aluminum react via galvanic corrosion. You also can't solder it, which means you need a crimper. And, politely, a bench vice doesn't count! Use marine grade wire - tinned copper. It'll hold up to the chemical/moisture exposure...

    Oil Viscosity trial and error

Get a chance to do the 'driveway pcv test' yet? While I think about it... Check the flow rate through your catch can too. If you're feeling brave, pull the hose off the valve cover and blow into it. System should be free flowing with no obstruction. For what it's worth.. I run 0w40 euro spec...

    Oil Viscosity trial and error

3 things I want to you to check Drain the catch can out and start the car Open the valve on the catch can. Do you feel pressure, suction, or neutral? What about if you remove the oil fill cap and place your palm over the opening? Test this with the catch can drain open and closed. You should...

    Oil Viscosity trial and error

Goodness that's a lot Sanity check that it's not pouring out anywhere or not mixing with coolant or something? That much oil... See blue smoke from the exhaust / oil smell? What are you pulling from your catch can? How many miles?

    External trans filter?

No complaints. Last time I changed it out, it had a bit of really fine stuff in it. Pretty much performing as expected with a healthy transmission. Whether I'll see any benefit in the long-term? Who knows. But it's cheap and makes me feel better

    External trans filter?

I did! Attached mine on the small crossover line between the cooler and the radiator. Used a magnefine filter

    Tru-Cool Max 40k Transmission Cooler

Right on Honestly I'm not sweating about those temps. Sig needs to be updated. I'm just shy of 185k with the original trans. Just kind of a cheeky jab since I've seen them go out around this time. Actually iirc don't they like to conk around 160ish?

    Tru-Cool Max 40k Transmission Cooler

Out of curiosity, what's your plumbing order for the cooler + radiator pass through, and what sort of temps are you seeing? Mine settles in around 100f on cold days, order is cooler, then radiator, then back to transmission

    What engine oil?

So, that one *was* true. But context of the time. PAO base stocks cause seals to shrink a touch - so it causes leaks. We pretty quickly figured out that if we mix in some ester based oil, it 'evens out.' But that was in the 70s. It literally hasn't been an issue in the last 40 years. Much like...
