I appreciate the insight tacky. I work in fleet maintenance and have torn apart so many ls engines. I have never personally seen evidence of what I would call severe piston slap. And as hard as piston slap my be on the bores of the cylinders and the piston skirts, it is nothing compared to the...
Nice job but, how do you keep it so clean in there? My dad used to just go to a car wash and blast everything under the hood but I'm scared to try that. My engine bay is always dirty.
It is a problem but I would say keep an eye on your oil pressure. Then if you have the extra funds or time, get rid of your AFM lifters and valley cover. If you look at all the post on failures they all come back to low oil pressure or a failed lifter. And if you have either of these symptoms...
I have the awd 6 speed and I have no issues. I'm amazed at how good the y pipe fit when I installed them. I can take picture of that if needed for reference. Maybe they have revised them since. My only 2 complaints about them are 1) the collectors were damaged in shipping. Not due to bad...
I can tell you that my cam cam from geoff at eps in louisiana and it is a custom grind done by cam motion in Louisiana with eps lobes. The lobes are a specific design that you can read about online and to my knowledge you can only get them by ordering from Geoff or pat g. They work well and do...
I was torn on headers. I wanted American racing or kooks. Or something made in usa. But mostly I wanted stainless and a ory pipe that is made for the Denali 3.5 inch exhaust. After many reviews and searching I settled on Texas speed headers. But at that time, they didn't have a y pipe for the 6...
If you have the 6 speed blackbear is the only way to go. I got them for a tune but what they did to my transmission was worth more than the tune for me. I didn't even know my tranny sucked until I found out what a 6 speed can really do. It shifts like a th350 with a shift kit now.
You guys are the best. I have been wondering for years what the 4 mystery wires taped under the dash by the diagnostic port are. Now I want to get a brake controller just to have them hooked up to something.
Well, I may be late to the party but I'm here now! I dont belive in the gm 'piston slap' excuse. I don't believe 10 psi of oil pressure at hot idle is 'normal'. And I have personaly seen the real causes for both issues. Several times I was quoted a new engine install from the dealer if it...
Same here. I'm running a flowmaster 40 3.5 inch with long tubes and no cats. It sounds good but nothing like my grandpa's Olds 442 does. That's the sound Im looking for
Nice info. I also heard the p0016 code could be from loading an 'empty' vvt cam into an engine. There is no oil in it or the phaser to accurately retard or advance timing. So in short, after a cam install or phaser limiter, the code p0011 and p0016 are perfectly normal and ok. A tune will fix them.
