Middle of 3.5k mile road trip - need A/C help

Hi all, I’ve got a small (I hope)A/C problem. I’m almost to the midpoint of a long trip in the north Midwest (hot and humid). My symptoms: blowing mist out the vents when A/C is on, PS footwell carpet is sopping wet, but just water, and I’m hearing a strange hissing noise from same spot at...

Front brakes stink after long downhill

Thanks all for the thoughts. No the cargo trailer doesn't have brakes. And yes, going pretty slow so little aerodynamic braking or cooling. Just going to be more careful in the future and use tow/haul more liberally. Also plan to do the brake pad bed-in procedure.

Front brakes stink after long downhill

I forgot to mention some of that stuff. I was consciously trying not to ride the brakes - letting off completely when I could to allow some cooling. I also kept it in third most of the time, even down to second in some cases. I was not using tow/haul but in retrospect I think I should have -...

Front brakes stink after long downhill

I'm a scoutmaster and I was with our troop last week at summer camp. I hauled our troop gear trailer which I'm guessing is about 3K lbs loaded. Camp is 5 miles off the highway and about 1500-2000 feet of elevation gain over that distance. On the way down I had burnt smelling brakes in front...

    MP3023 Transfer Case Grinding/Chattering

Just to close the loop on this, I finally got around to disassembling my old t-case to see what happened. Looks like the planetary gear set failed. Also the input bearing seems to be toasted, but maybe that was collateral damage. (or vice versa?) The pics show a slight crack in the carrier...

    Door Lock Actuator Issue

I know the answer is probably "no," but are they rebuildable? My passenger side front lock is hit or miss, lately more miss than hit. When it doesn't actuate you can see it trying to, but not enough oomph to move it from one position to the other. Happens both on lock and unlock. Doesn't...

    front wheel bearings - 4WD

My bad. I see now. I jacked up the LCA as close to the ball joint as I could get. I now see/hear/feel the play pulling in all directions on the wheel. So I'm back to doing wheel bearings/hubs? Thanks. LCA look the same. Kind of a moot point if I don't replace the UCAs now, but for the...

    front wheel bearings - 4WD

Here's the link to GM GENUINE 25812725. but the note I'm seeing doesn't show up on the info page, I only see it on the summary page of all the different options for UCA. I jacked drivers side up tonight to do further testing. Jacking point was engine cross member near back mounting point for...

    front wheel bearings - 4WD

My latest question is why does Rock Auto have that note about verifying the design of the ball joint when none of the other brands have that note. The note is talking about inspection for fitment, not condition. Your explanation on checking condition is good, no questions there.

Even worth installing doreman manifold clamp?

I just did the Dorman clamp on the drivers side rear stud a few weeks ago. Install sucks but it's doable. If you end up doing the clamp, check out my review on Amazon first. I'm username Zora and my review is currently at the top. I gave detailed install sequence and tips. I agree with...

    upgrade air intake tube

I received it today - went on no problem, looks great. Thank you. I decided to buy the used one @crownvic31 had for sale. Very reasonable price - judging from the price of those rubber splices in the plumbing section, I don't think I would have saved much/any money by making my own...

    front wheel bearings - 4WD

Hmmmm. I was going off what RA's site says when you look up front wheel bearings: Shake Test: Identifying Play or Looseness Lift your vehicle so the wheel is off the ground Place your hands on the sides of the tire and try to shake the wheel Now place your hands on the top and bottom of the...

    front wheel bearings - 4WD

After further diagnosis with the help of a shop owner friend - it’s actually the upper ball joints that are causing the play. Replace just the joints themselves with GM or whole upper control arm?

    front wheel bearings - 4WD

Oh wow, thanks for this link! I was not finding OEM on Amazon just by searching. And I was not finding this cheap anywhere for anything GM or Delco. The part numbers are confusing. RA has a Delco 515096A for $180, and they have a GM Genuine 84856653, for $213. (yes, that's for just one)...

    front wheel bearings - 4WD

Both fronts are the same. I'm wondering if it's actually ball joints. I didn't do a great job checking play by pulling at 9 and 3, but did seem tighter in that direction. I'm with you on dropping in new parts on these rigs. Things will fail, but trying to second guess what they are before...

    front wheel bearings - 4WD

Should have done this a long time ago, but had the front wheels lifted off the ground for something else today and checked for play at 6:00/12:00. Probably about .1" movement at outer edge of tire. No noise or any other ill effects from the front end, but I'm guessing it's time for...

    upgrade air intake tube

Thanks for all the good ideas. I'm checking in to used AiRaid, but I may still go with the homebuilt option. I'm always up for a challenge like that. (I'm an engineer :) ) I'll post on this thread with whatever the end result is.

    upgrade air intake tube

I'm liking the homemade option! I was already thinking about that but the pic and description helped a lot. Finding some good stuff on Google, including the full post this pic came from. I was also thinking about buying one of the cheapies on ebay and just using the tube, but I think there'd...

    upgrade air intake tube

2009 Tahoe, 5.3. I want to get rid of the accordian section of the intake tube, but I want to keep the factory air box and flat filter. I just want a smooth tube and to get rid of the resonator. I've been looking at Airaid, but $150-$200 for a plastic tube seems like a lot. Are there any...

What did you do to your NNBS GMT900 Tahoe/Yukon Today?

Stripped clear coat, sanded, and polished front two wheels. Did the same treatment to the rears months ago. They still look good so I wanted to do it all around. I stupidly don't have a before pic, but the clear coat was all blotchy and mottled. Faded and cloudy in some spots, but not...

What did you do to your NNBS GMT900 Tahoe/Yukon Today?

Been adding some lights over the last few weeks. Small light bar in front, surface mounted to top of bumper. Then in back I first did two flush mounts inside the bumper - they shine out from center quite a bit so I added a third surface mount just to the right of the receiver. Switch mounted...

    Ignition-hot source from a fuse?

I’m trying to find an ignition hot source for the pink wire hanging out in the pic. It’s for the lighting circuit for an aux light switch I installed. (The relay for the lights is powered direct from the batt, so I can run them with key off). My plan was to use a fuse tap in one of the fuses in...

    Body side molding peeling back

I got mine all off and tape remnants removed over the weekend. Everything came off clean except it took a small strip of paint off on PS front. I like the look off of it WO moldings so I think I’m going to leave them off. (Plus the thinner end of one of the moldings broke in removal). I...

What did you do to your NNBS GMT900 Tahoe/Yukon Today?

Brakes! Not today, but last two weeks I replaced front pads with semi-metallic and did a full fluid replacement. For pads, I'm a firm believer in semi-metallic over ceramic. Ceramics last longer sure, but I believe it's at the expense of rotors, at least on some vehicles. (In particular the...
