    Body side molding peeling back

Thanks guys. I'm going to remove them now. If we have sun in Feb in the PNW it's still not enough to get them warm, so I'll wait till summer IF I want them back on. But I may decide I like it without them. Good comment about taking careful notes and pics so I can locate them properly later...

    Body side molding peeling back

I know this has been discussed in older threads, but I didn’t see anything recent for NNBS. I’m thinking about just removing all four of the door moldings. This is the worst one, but all four are doing it. I’m worried that they’re warping and putting them back with new 3M tape will just be a...

What did you do to your NNBS GMT900 Tahoe/Yukon Today?

    Me too. '91 V2500, 383 that I built and OBD-1 tuned myself, 4L80e

What did you do to your NNBS GMT900 Tahoe/Yukon Today?

I did replace it. When I noticed this my first thought was, crap, fluid level is probably wrong. But after the fix, fluid level was less than 1/2 quart low. Fluid is very clear and light pink. I think I will still do a pan drop in the near future though

What did you do to your NNBS GMT900 Tahoe/Yukon Today?

Weird one for you guys - I had to replace my trans dipstick tube. Apparently I bought the truck like this. I knew it was loose, but I just assumed the bracket wasn't attached to the back of the engine block. I can't figure out a break like this would have occurred. Any thoughts? In other...

    MP3023 Transfer Case Grinding/Chattering

"New" T-case from LKQ is in and rig is running and driving - no noise! $275, from a silverado with 119K. Install went pretty well except for the fact that exactly .5 seconds after I got it seated on the adapter I remembered I needed to install the gasket. Back down to the ground on the trans...

    MP3023 Transfer Case Grinding/Chattering

Thanks for the info and vid link. seems like a plausible explanation. Do these problems continue to the MP t-cases of late 2000s? I think your 2002 would have been an NP261? Just trying to figure out if this is a systemic problem with the MP3023. I purchased a used one from LKQ today - 120K...

    Transfer case removal question

no, exhaust wouldn't budge at at all. Yep, I cut the inside one. Then it just pivoted down so I didn't have to cut the other one. Got the case out no problem after that. I'll go to u-pull and see if I can find one on the ground. Thanks!

    MP3023 Transfer Case Grinding/Chattering

Got the T-case out tonight and split it apart. I'm pretty sure the problem is with the planetary set itself. Everything looks good on the output half and spins nicely. But spinning the planetary by itself I hear the same grinding I heard when it was running. And there are ribs on the inside...

    Transfer case removal question

My shot transfer case is coming out. I posted a couple days ago about severe grinding - further diagnosis just confirms that the noise is coming from the t-case. I started the removal tonight, but I've hit a snag. Main question: does the trans cross member have to be removed? I can't see how...

    MP3023 Transfer Case Grinding/Chattering

Thanks, guys. I think that’s what I’ll do. I like rebuilding stuff when I don’t have to worry about trying to get it back together because I need to use it in two days. I’ve done engines, steering gear, alternators, starters, etc - time to try my hand at a T-case.

    MP3023 Transfer Case Grinding/Chattering

Only the front wheels off the ground (by about six inches). And “shooting out” was a poor choice of words - put the plug back in right away when I saw there was fluid at the fill plug level. It would be an easy fix if that were the problem, but I don’t think that’s it.

    MP3023 Transfer Case Grinding/Chattering

I was in 2wd. I did try auto and 4-hi while diagnosing on the road. - no change to the noise. But it went into all modes without issue. I can get all four wheels off the ground safely. I think I’ll do what you suggest. I’m beginning to suspect I don’t have 4wd. Front suspension needs...

    MP3023 Transfer Case Grinding/Chattering

2800 mile family road trip over Thanksgiving week in the Tahoe. Ran great, really no major issues until about mile 2300 on the way home. Felt a hard shift from the trans (at least that's what it felt like) and from then on had a significant, impossible to ignore, metal-on-metal sound from the...

What did you do to your NNBS GMT900 Tahoe/Yukon Today?

Removed the tiny screen below the oil pressure sender. In the two months I've owned it I've never gotten a low oil pressure notice or any codes, but pressure was showing below 20 at idle and not even quite 30 at speed. Definitely a challenge getting the sender out with just removing the two...

Slow cranking due to battery cable?

I'm pretty convinced it was the cable to batt terminal connection that I showed at the end of the video. Many broken strands that weren't making contact at all, and the terminal used a set screw to hold secure, instead of strong crimp. The engine block terminal end looked totally fine, and no...

    Silverado Rims on Tahoe

I love those 18s. When I got my Tahoe a couple months ago I was looking for a set of takeoffs with good rubber, that exact style. Didn't find exactly what I was looking for so I just got some nice, 90% new Coopers to fit my stock 17s. Next time I do tires, I'm gonna hunt a set of those down.

Slow cranking due to battery cable?

Yeah, battery capacity could have something to do with it. Mine lists 730 CCA. Do you have a link to the CCA requirements page you found? I wasn't finding much with some searches. But I think in my case it was the negative cable. Replacement seems to have solved my issue. I put together a...

Slow cranking due to battery cable?

Thanks! I do plan to stick around. I too, keep my vehicles a long time, (Suburban was 8 years, my 76 Vette is 21 and counting!) I will not put a lot of miles on this Tahoe, probably 5k a year, so it should be sticking around for a while. I plan to just slowly build it up the way I want...

Slow cranking due to battery cable?

I hear you! I'm an engineer for a large electrical utility so I'm no stranger to asset management principles/reliability centered maintenance. (Also understand the importance of good grounding practices - they keep our people alive, among other things) I also have no problem replacing parts...

Slow cranking due to battery cable?

I understand the need to restore grounds and cables to factory conditions, but why the need for upgrading conductor size and capacity so much from factory? Or is "Big 3" just replacing cables, not upgrading? (When googling "Big 3 upgrade" in a general sense you get tons of returns on high...

Slow cranking due to battery cable?

Got it, thanks. I had no idea the "Big 3" mod was such a BIG deal for these trucks. I thought it was just a colloquial term amongst a small group here and an actual search wouldn't turn anything up. Guess I should have tried first! All over this site and every other forum dealing with these...

Slow cranking due to battery cable?

Thanks for input, everyone. I'm assuming the "Big 3" are positive and negative batt cables plus the braided ground strap from engine to firewall on drivers side? I've looked at the connections for all of those and the only visible issue is the negative cable at the post (pics that I posted...

Slow cranking due to battery cable?

My 2009 Tahoe, 5.3, cranks slow, especially when cold. It's been that way since I've owned it, but that's only been about 2 months. I had the battery load tested - tested good and it's only 2 years old. Battery shows 12.3V with key and engine off. Engine running I see 14.7 or so at the...

New '09 Tahoe - moved on from '91 Suburban

Thanks! LOL - I think I recognize you from GMSB? If so, you can find lots of pics of my '91 there - my handle is Daveo91Burb. It was a really hard decision to sell it. I had it for 8 years and put a lot of money and time into it. But it just wasn't getting the use and with the Tahoe I miss...
