What do you mean by "the shield is off intake?" I don't have anything removed. I simply opened the hood and took a video of the side of the engine I felt like the ticking was coming from.
I'll probably need to pull the valve covers, but damn I don't want to dig into that right now. :)
Interesting. You think the sound could be different because he had the engine taken apart and everything was open? I really don't feel like digging that deep into the engine right now. Did that several times on my Avalanche and it ain't fun. What else could make a ticking sound like that?
I literally changed the oil right before our trip so it probably has about 800 miles on it. I've put a bottle of Rislone in it before an oil change in the past, but I didn't have time to do that this time since I procrastinated on the oil change. I guess I'll just keep an eye on it.
Got home from about a 7 hour trip in our 2015 Tahoe and my wife said the car sounded weird. Is this lifter tick?
I have one of the Range devices to keep it from going into 4 cylinder mode, but this sound worries me. My 2010 Avalanche had a stuck lifter a while back and it took me a few weeks...
So I got one of them in. It is stamped so I think it's genuine. Unfortunately Amazon says the other one I ordered has been lost, so I need to order another one now. And of course the price has gone up $40 since my original order.
Yeah, I figure I'll skip Ebay and give Amazon a shot. At least they have a simple return policy that should make them easy to return if they aren't genuine. Last resort is probably RockAuto. They usually have pretty good prices, but they always get me on shipping.
I think I may have figured out what the issue probably is. In the thread I made almost 2 years ago about this problem someone replied with the same thing. Turned out to be something stuck down in the vent from a previously cracked dashboard. I had the same cracked dashboard problem a number...
I finally got around to replacing the blend door actuator that controls where the air is going. Did the calibration procedure and cranked things up. However, it seems like it will not go fully into the last position (defrost/foot). When it's in this position, air is still coming out of the...
If I buy a tuner, am I able to tune multiple vehicles with it? That part is unclear to me. You say "purchase a tune" as if I'm buying one thing, but from my uneducated point of view I'm buying a piece of equipment. Also, does the tuner stay hooked up or do you hook it up, program the...
Yeah, I don't think I'm gonna make any changes to it. Just learn to live with it. I would, however, like to find out how to recalibrate the speedometer for the larger tires. I think I need a tuner, but $400 seems like a good bit to pay just to recalibrate the speedo.
We have a set of these on my son's 4Runner. So far they have functioned well.
They are only rubbing the sway bars. No rubbing on the inner fender at all.
That's a great point about being hub centric instead of lug centric. Read a lot of reviews on amazon about "universal" spacers causing balancing issues because they are lug centric and will essentially "fall" onto the lugs when installed.
No, he has a 4Runner, and it was like that when we bought it. I had done my research and was prepared to get the "body mount chop" done on it after I changed out wheels and tires. It's good now. I sold those wheels and tires and the stock wheels and tires that the previous owner gave us with...
Are you saying yours rub the fender liners in the wheel well? If that was the case I wouldn't be concerned as those are just plastic. However, these are rubbing on metal, granted it's smooth metal. But metal vs. rubber, metal will win.
The car we bought for my son had some giant tires on it...
I believe I can hear some rubbing when taking corners a little aggressively which is not at full lock. And, it is rubbing on both sides.
I don't think it feels any more "squishy" than before. I actually commented to my wife that I feel more connected to the road. However, these tires are...
That's a good point. I have no idea what it looked like before I changed the tires.
However, I can hear it rub the sway bar now and as far as I remember, I never heard any rubbing with the smaller tires. Family noticed it too so I'm assuming it didn't rub before.
Just got a new set of tires for my 2015 Tahoe LTZ with the 22" factory wheels. I went up in size to fill out the wheel well a little better. I went from a 285/45/22 to a 305/45/22. It looks great and rides fantastic, but I just noticed a little rubbing on the sway bar last night. It doesn't...
The gaps were really, really big. Not sure how that even happens but it was terrible. However, I don't think that was the root issue. I started another thread about my issues that seem to root in the AFM/DOD part of the engine...
Not sure if by "pre-getting-lifter-unstuck" you mean when the lifter was actually stuck or before it even got stuck. Before it got stuck, it was a rough idle all the time no matter how warm the engine was, and it was that way for a long time. Once the lifter got stuck, I didn't drive it at all...
Did you use a manual to do it? Youtube? How long did it take you? Did you have to drop the oil pan? I replaced the oil pan gasket myself a few months ago and that was not a fun job. Nearly lost several fingers when the front diff dropped off the transmission jack I was using to get it back...
So just wanted to update this thread with my progress (or not progress).
Truck has been running great since I got the lifter unstuck. I would almost say it's been running better than it has in years. However, I still wanted to get the parts swapped out so it is a full AFM delete engine...
It's on the driver side right behind the center console. You practically have to lay upside down by the pedals to see it. Mine doesn't, but it might have a cover over it. I can't quite remember and I've done so much work down there on my truck I may be missing some trim pieces.
We had the same problem on my wife's 2015 Tahoe a few months ago. I ended up replacing the thermostat sensor, which at first did not seem to fix the issue. Immediately after replacing the sensor, I cranked it up, let it run for a minute then turned it off. The fans continued to run at high...
