    noob diesel questions

IMHO, maybe read the supplementary diesel owners' manual. I found it was helpful. You should have a paper copy in your glove box. Here is the Chevrolet website online pdf of the "3.0L Duramax Diesel Engine Supplement"...

    D max and tire size??

I wouldn't do it. A lot of things run off the speed/distance traveled information. I think if you need to change tires, it must be recalibrated. This may be especially true of diesel.

    Diesel and city driving?

You'll be able to tell when the Duramax is in regen if you're looking out for it. The idle will be a little faster and there will be a deeper tone to the exhaust. Sometimes there's a slight melted crayon smell. This engine is really good as it is. IMHO, run it for a few months before wiring...

https://www.foxnews.com/us/california-cop-injured-homicide-suspect-dead-onstar-police-chase Here we go, shutting down cars to stop a chase. OK, on star cooperates to stop a killer on the run, fine. By why stop there? What about shutting off someone's car because of a restraining order? How...

    Diesel and city driving?

I think of marine diesels being left to run through cold weather spells, but this seems to be different technology. As others point out, these modern small displacement turbo diesels are in common daily use in Europe, about half the automotive market. Those diesels, anywhere from about one to...

2021 Denali DMax, 5k mile driving review comparing with ecoDiesel

2,000 miles. Dealer gave me half a tank of DEF and I put in another gallon to bring it to 3/4 full and the gauge has stayed there at 3/4.

Active Response 4WD - Is it worth waiting for when driving periodically in snow?

I think you should get the diesel. This is not an uncommon engine. It is now in its third year in the Silverado and Chevy and GMC dealers are everywhere. There's plenty of passing power at speed. 277 hp seems to me to be plenty of steam, even for a three-ton aerodynamic brick. I think all...

Active Response 4WD - Is it worth waiting for when driving periodically in snow?

Snow tires matter a lot for heavy snow conditions, maybe as much as 4WD. I used to drive 8-10k miles through deep Maine winters every year in a '95 municipal Caprice, most of it over unplowed frost heave two-lane roads. The Caprice was my winter car, had a '98 Z28 convertible for summer. I...

    Diesel and city driving?

So I have 115 hours driving 2050 miles in my 2021 3.0L Duramax. 75% of my engine hours are on a two mile trip to drop my kids off at school in the morning, a 15-20 min drive going in, a little faster coming back. And picking them up in the evening on the same route takes 35-40. I changed the...

    2022 Suburban HD

Thinking about this still ticks me off. There's a current production vehicle to fill the bill, Lenco Bearcat Tactical SUV, built on a Ford F550 chasis, costs about 350k. What's the matter, no leather seats or infotainment screens? What, they want a vehicle that looks like a normal 2021+...

    Duramax smell

So is it possible that using autostopstart is better for this engine? About 70 of my last 100 engine hours have been spent in slow stop and go traffic. My engine oil is dirty at 2,000 miles. The avg speed is about 20mph.

    Duramax smell

Mine has a melted plastic smell in "regen" phase. I am told on this forum that regen phase burns the diesel particulate out of the particulate exhaust filter. I notice the smell after parking the Duramax in the garage. It is not a normal diesel smell. This only happens occasionally. I will...

Setina PB-100 on a Duramax Tahoe

Anyone have experience putting a Setina push bumper on a diesel Tahoe? I contacted Setina and the rep could not tell me whether it would fit on a diesel and could not describe exactly what I would have to cut under or around the grille. I want to protect my front end from damage by careless...

Yukon Denali Duramax - Is it slow?

Nearly 2000 miles on the odometer of my '21 LT Duramax. Performance is way more than adequate. I've had fast cars (Z28, Mitsu Evo IX, 01 M Coupe) and of course this is not one. In real world conditions, however, this car is plenty fast. I prefer this kind of power to the gas for daily...

    Considering Diesel

Oh well. I was mistaken, then. Anyway, it was an iron block V6 3800 that put out 180+/- hp and got great milage.

    Considering Diesel

I think IMHO that GM has long been the leader in engine efficiency. My Dad had an '88 Bonneville that got a 36mpg avg on a 1,500 mile drive in the Maritimes (watching out for those Mounties, eh). That was the v6 3800 "Iron Duke". My '95 Caprice with the L99 263ci V8 always 24-25mpg on long...

Thank you for that. So do you think that using auto stop would help reduce emissions fouling if I'm sitting in traffic a lot?

..... Hi Tollkeeper. I am interested in what you say. We are doing mixed driving w our new Durmax, a lot of hours in traffic and then a 400 mile weekend every month. I only have 1,300 miles on the odometer after today's drive, but no hint of trouble. What are your suggestions for...

    2022 Suburban HD

Install a v8 Duramax and armor up the Suburban? For that matter, an up armored SUV is already commercially available. Lenco out in Pittsfield, MA builds their own armored SUV body on a Ford 550 chassis for a starting price of around 300k. Agencies all over the country have them...

    Considering Diesel

I have a 4WD LT diesel and like it very much at 1,100 miles. I am very pleased with it and glad I got it. I find no disadvantages to having the diesel. The engine moves the big truck along in a hurry, no slouch for acceleration at all, more than enough. There's no turbo lag, none at all, for...

    Disconnecting 2021 OnStar

The on star is a big data in big data profile leap if you're like me with a GPRS phone (no GPS location or browsing), browser protections, VPN, zero app use/devices, no contacts sharing, etc. I don't even sync my phone to my laptop. If it's free to you, you're the product. What people are...
