So, while doing my fuel pump, i had noticed the parking brake cable adjustment that seems odd to me. See picture. The adjustment bolt seems to have about 30 washers on it that function as spacers. This does not seem normal.
Parking brake is not as tight as I would like it and with brake lines...
Hey David Paul, It looks similar but this one does not seem to work with GM trucks? I could not find the exact SST. Of course, i forgot to ask if the local parts place had a loaner tool (also check local GM truck clubs). However, the lubricant on the lock ring will most likely make this job a...
Thanks Slchoe, I will add those suggestions to the write up. I suppose you could you anti-seize as well on the ring? Probably help it from rusting as well. Actually, now that i think of it... one of the videos i watched, the guy had anti-seize out but never explained why. Now I know.
I will try...
Sure thing. Let me know how it goes and if you have anything to add. If u have pics, I can post them. I will edit the first post so that people don't need to read through entire thread.
Tahoe - Fuel Pump Replacement
Time: 2-4 hours
Fuel Pump for Z engine:
ACDelco MU2294
Delphi FG0810 (I used this one)
Tank Ring: ACDelco TR19
Connectors to pump 3/8 and 5/16 fuel line connection nylon strength?
I thought I would do a write up on how to replace the tank on my 2004 Chevy Tahoe...
So I did the job Sunday. Took about 3 hrs, not counting the trip to the parts store to get a new lockring (ordered wrong one). Most time was 'figuring it out' so to speak.
I tested the fuel pressure and it holds once primed, but pressure is about the same. 42-45 psi. I have not yet changed fuel...
There are about 10-15 different pumps for this truck. I am sure there is some junk out there. A bad mechanic would throw the cheapest part in there and it could fail prematurely. Probably what happened.
Sorry, can't help you there. could not even find the fuel section of the FSM in the digital version.
Just out of curiosity, what brand pump did you buy? Let us know if it ends up being the pump.
Thanks Slchoe, that really helps. I should be receiving pump today, with lock ring, and will try to do the work next weekend.
Is there a write up in the FSM? i could not find it. I will look again on line for any write ups on some forums.
So, did pressure test again. Truck was warm and had just ran after a 15 min trip. When i turn ignition on, pressure goes up to about 7psi. Then i cranked it and it had trouble cranking first time. Second time started right up and pressure went up to a steady 42 psi.
Turn off truck, pressure...
How long does this job take?
Do the pumps generally come with gaskets? I also read that it is good to replace the lock ring that can get rusted out.
Any other words of advice from those who have done this?
i did some reading when i first got my stock truck. But people always post mods claiming amazing advantages, but never back it up with proof. It would be nice to do a test with each mod. and do dyno test before and after.
I checked my transmission fluid levels on the 04 z71 tahoe over the weekend and noticed it was overfilled. I did the hot test following the manual exactly.
When i first bought the truck noticed that it was way overfilled. I pulled about a gallon out.
Since then, went to AAA to do an oil...
