The 2004 seats were/are great. Especially the logo-less Escalade seats that were available in the Tahoe LT. I have a 2004 LTand a 2022 Tahoe Z71. I find the seats in the 2004 more spacious and more comfortable (they are 2+ inches wider than those in the 2022 - more shoulder room, too)
The 2022...
I have a Tahoe with 2Hi-4Auto-4Hi-4Lo.
I normally use 2Hi.
4Auto for moderate to heavy rain or light snow conditions I also use 4Auto on most boat ramps.
4Hi for traveling on gravel roads/boat ramps or moderate to heavy snow conditions
4Lo on more difficult situations or driving on remote...
If your transmission is still functioning, you may want to just take it to a reputable local shop to have them inspect it and renew components. My 2004 Tahoe required $1400 of repair work at 190k and another $1600 at 373k in addition to routine maintenance.
Regarding, the 5.3 …. Hard to say...
If front tow hooks and skid plates are required, not all Gen5 Tahoe and Yukon trim levels seem to offer them as standard features or even as options.
In some earlier generations of Tahoes and Yukons, tow hooks have been standard and skid plates were standard or available as options for all or...
Given that you have been waiting 20 years, it should be noted that the Gen5 Tahoes’ seats are a couple inches narrower than the Gen2 seats in a 2004 Tahoe despite the Gen2 vehicle having smaller external dimensions. Similarly, there is less usable tall driver shoulder room in Gen5 Tahoes than in...
Are you really gaining anything by switching vehicles with the same generation seats. My 2004 Tahoe seats are basically the 2nd generation Escalade seats without out the Cadillac logo on the head rest. The 5th generation seats on my 2022 Tahoe Z71 are less comfortable. They remind me of...
My thoughts about the 5th generation Tahoe is that it was designed by soccer moms for soccer moms. The seating is smaller and less comfortable for tall and broad shouldered drivers than that its 2nd and 3rd generation predecessors despite the 5th generation vehicle being physically larger.
I have a 2004 Tahoe LT with the Chevy version of the Escalade seats and a 2022 Tahoe Z71. The new fifth generation Tahoe seats appear to be at least 2 inches NARROWER than the second generation seats. The usable shoulder room seems to be correspondingly narrower when the seat is moved back to...
The front seats in the Gen5 Tahoe (2021 and newer)are about 2 inches narrower than those in the old Gen2 (2000-2006). The new seats feel like something from a 2005 Chevy Trailblazer. Perhaps the new GM ”full size” SUVs were designed by soccer moms for soccer moms. The Gen5 has less usable...
I have a 2004 Tahoe LT and 2022 Tahoe z71 The front seats on the 2004 Tahoe are about 2 inches wider than the front seats in the larger 2022 Tahoe Correspondingly, there is about 2 inches less usable shoulder room for the driver. A long legged, broad shouldered driver will likely find his...
One thing to keep in mind with the 2021-2024 Yukon/Tahoe is that chains cannot be used with 275/60R20 and 275/50R22 tires (according to the 2024 manual at or around page 361).
……. For Tahoes/Yukons with smaller tires/wheels, apparently the chains are supposed to be mounted on the rear wheels
My 2022 Tahoe Z71 had similar tire life. I switched to Goodyear Duratrac because they worked on my 2004 Tahoe and my brother’s LR4. I have used Michelin LT tires and the Goodyear Wrangler® All-Terrain Adventure With Kevlar® Those were great on the highway and decent-but not great- in snow
In certain regions out West (ironically near Lake TAHOE is one of them) , the vehicle operator is supposed to have chains in chain control area. For California , the CALTRANS QuickMap is a good resource for finding out if a road is in a chain control area
According tomCALTRANS:
Four wheel/all...
What should the typical engine temperature reading on the OBD be for a 2022 Tahoe Z71 with the 5.3 engine? The dashboard temperature gauge is slightly better than useless compared to the gauge on my 2004 Tahoe. I think my engine might be running a little cooler than it should be.
My mileage...
On the Tahoe/Yukon, larger wheels may preclude you from using tire chains due to reduced clearance in the wheel well. Consult an online owners manual for details
The driver seat on a ‘23 Escalade may be narrower than the driver seat of some of the earlier Escalades. The smaller Escalades of 10 to 20 years ago had seats that are likely more than 2 inches wider than the seats that GM is putting in their current full size SUVs GM has lost its way...
It seems the vehicle is working out for you. My main disappointment about the Gen5 Tahoe versus the Gen2 Tahoe is that the driver’s seat in the larger, newer vehicle is smaller than in the older Tahoes (about 19.5 inches versus about 22 inches. ). The shoulder room for tall drivers is also...
Is there a chart that compares the seat dimensions for the front buckets seats of Tahoes and Yukons over the past 20+ years?
The driver seat in my 2004 Tahoe LT seems larger than the ones found in the 2021 and 2022 models (The 2004 has the Chevy version of the Escalade seat from that era).
Minor note regarding the 2004 Tahoe/ Suburban 5.3 liter engine and oil.
At about 190,000 miles on my 2004 Tahoe (VIN engine code Z) I switched from the Mobil 1 M-107 filter to the larger M-206/ M-206A because I was sometimes tripping the bypass valve on the filter (I think) and spiking the oil...
