    CV axles

I have a spare axle and I know how to remove the joint.

    CV axles

Ok, so my original question was, do I need to bolt in an outer CV joint end or not, and it appears that the answer is yes. So, I will do that.

    CV axles

The inner axle bolts to a flange that is secured inside the front differential. And my initial question was, can I or can I not? If I cannot, I can simply find an outer joint and install it in the hub and torque the nut. That's really all I wanted to know.

    CV axles

I haven't check that yet but it doesn't seem to me that those things would be weight related. If they were making noise, turning while driving would have no affect.

    CV axles

Yep. I installed a new assembly and nothing changed.

    CV axles

I hear it pretty much all the time when driving straight or turning right, it's harder to hear at freeway speeds but I know it's still there. When I turn left, the noise goes away.

    CV axles

Yeah I have an old axle I can pop the outer cv off of.

    CV axles

Well, I'm working on my 03 Silverado but it uses the same hub/bearing as my 05 Yukon so I figured the answer should be the same for both. I have a low growl noise that sounds exactly like a bad wheel bearing but I replaced it and the noise didn't go away. I would have bet my fortune on it being...

    CV axles

For diagnostic reasons can I remove one of my CV axles and still drive it? Or so I need to bolt a dummy joint onto the outer hub for bearing preload?

    Rear main seal

I did it on jack stands last time. I'm hitting up my buddy that has a lift this time. That was a major PITA.

    Rear main seal

I was unaware of needing an alignment tool. There was a round plastic thing that came in the Felpro set but I take that may have been inadequate for the task?

    Rear main seal

I just replaced my rear main seal while I was swapping the transmission a couple months ago but it appears to be leaking already. Is there anything else that could leak that might look like a rear main leak? I can definitely see a stream of oil comin down behind the flex plate. I'm pretty sure I...

Oil leak but I don't know what the thing is called.

Oh, I get it. It's for an optional oil cooler?

Oil leak but I don't know what the thing is called.

After getting my replacement transmission installed I noticed an oil leak coming from something near the oil filter. Held on by two 10mm bolts and to me it looks like some sort of pressure regulator or something. Can someone tell me what it is so I know what to ask for when getting a new gasket?

    Bad trans or transfer case?

Got the "new" used transmission installed and it's working fine. Took me a while to get it done and it was quite challenging for me with all my arthritis and just working in my garage without a lift. But I'm happy it's finally done. Now I have an old broken transmission sitting around.

Reduced Engine Power, an opinion and experience piece!

My 2003 Silverado does this but only in the winter and only when it gets really cold for a few weeks. Like about 20 degrees or colder. Always on the freeway and it always goes back to normal after pulling over and shutting off and restarting.

    Bad trans or transfer case?

was messing around with the broken trans and found more chunks. These are the biggest so far.

    Bad trans or transfer case?

So, I am now hip deep in a transmission swap. I am confused on the seal I need to replace for the transfer case filling up with fluid. Is it the back of the trans or the front of the T-case? I can't really see a seal on the output shaft of the transmission. BTW, it's a low mile used...

    Bad trans or transfer case?

BTW, here's a pic of the carnage.

    Bad trans or transfer case?

I found a used transmission with a 6 month warranty. I have no clue how to rebuild a transmission myself so I'll put this used one in and hope for the best.

    Bad trans or transfer case?

I got motivated and dropped the T case an split it open. Nothing wrong in there so I went ahead and dropped the trans pan and found metal bits. I guess I have my answer. Now we're trying to figure out how far we want to go with it.

    Bad trans or transfer case?

Working on getting the tcase out. Have everything unbolted just have to figure out a way to lower it to the floor without breaking it or hurting myself. I don't have a trans jack.

    Bad trans or transfer case?

This is the Borg Warner all wheel drive t-case. There is no 2Hi.

    Bad trans or transfer case?

Now that I think about, I forgot that we had a weird clunk that was like a bad ujoint a few weeks ago. But I wrote it off as imagining things when I didn't find any bad ujoints. I was hoping to find someone here that may have dug into one of these before.

    Bad trans or transfer case?

I know the rear seal leaked into the Tcase. The reason I'm suspecting Tcase is because it doesn't hold it in park. I'm trying to figure out if the Tcase can fail and cause my symptoms because it feels like the park pawl is actually working and it also feels like it's going into gear. No noise in...
