Can a 6 speed auto trans from a 2wd be put into a 4wd if the tail housing is swapped for the transfer case? Im asking because the 4wd versions are quite a bit harder to find in the price range that im willing to pay.
The replacement is from a 2009 silverado 4x4.
Im not sure what the Service Fast Learn procedure is ??
The original has issues with shifting and holding a gear. Also has fluctuation in rpm while driving, slippage is occurring, and the pan had pretty significant amount of sludge/crud settled in...
Update on the transmission issue.
I have found a transmission at a local auto recycling yard. It has low miles considering the age of the vehicle it will be removed from. I am capable of doing the swap myself however my main concern is whether or not this type of transmission (6spd/6L80) is...
Went to the transmission shop Friday.
Im waiting on the price list on my options.. Im hoping to get by with a torque converter and probably a new ECM for the trans. If we were going to keep this long term i would have it built but its not in the budget for that type of expense .
Not sure on the temperature of the fluid.
I'll check it out the next time I get time to drive it.
Originally I was testing it off the ground but I have been testing it on the road now that I have it full of fluid.
I have noticed a slight howl or cavitation sound when it is trying to shift but...
Yes, it is good. It is actually a slight bit high. I am kinda suspecting that the converter might be giving up. Im not really sure of the symptoms of a converter going out though.
When it holds a gear properly it will accelerate quite nicely but as soon as the accelerator is released its like...
After further review/inspection and advise I now have it driving and shifting all gears. (Not quite enough fluid)
However, The transmission is shifting strange . It will shift to a gear and it then seems to go into neutral until more throttle is applied. Its almost like it is hunting /searching...
Agreed, but the only thing that I intentionally unplugged was the O2 sensors.
I'll check again but is there anything else other than something unplugged that I should look for?
The display shows to be in gear and the fluid level is within operating level. I was actually wanting to run it on the stands to circulate the fluid a bit and recheck the level
I only removed the pan, emptied it, cleaned the sediment out, replaced the filter and re-installed everything.
Okay heres a quick rundown on the issue.
2009 Tahoe SSV with the 6spd auto.
It had been parked on jackstands for nearly 4 weeks while i was getting everything together to to longtube headers etc.. etc..
While it was torn down i went ahead and dropped the transmission pan to install a new trans...
Thank you to everyone that has replied so far.
Im thinking i might have the time and budget to go ahead with the periodic maintenance this weekend. It also needs a thorough cleaning inside, out and definitely under the hood.
Here's two more questions.
1. Is there a way to diagnose the fuel...
The previous owner had it for 5 yrs and was not used as a patrol vehicle. I will be doing maintenance within the next couple of weeks just to get it on my schedule. So far the mileage seems pretty good for what it is. The only issue as of the first week of ownership is that the fuel gauge isn't...
Groovy!
I was hoping that it would. If there is a thread with pics showing any sort of process to make it fit please let me know. Im new to the GM/LS based stuff.
Thank you and Merry Christmas to you as well.
