If you cant determine when the rad was replaced, I would do that. Most likely its original.
And the plugs, as mentioned.
And all fluids. But they should be current, anyway.
Oh. Ok. Now I see. haha.
And now I'm 99% sure the cost reduction implemented to better achieve the online discount price point was to provide the fittings and have consumer install them.
Not best business practices I might say.
splorg:
Thanks for the pics. Whats that thing on the underside of the trans line? Looks like a key tool of some sort??
Other than that, your line connections look just like mine I would say. And if that's true, then it reasons that part of the cost reduction for online sales of this particular...
splorg:
If at all possible, can you shoot a pic of the tranny line connection area at your radiator? I am wondering why your duralast (which seems to be same pn#cu2423 as what I bought) had fittings installed and mine did not.
I wonder if that is why mine was cheaper? I "got" to do more work...
I didn't expect issues w/ mine, but who does? I've bought them online 2x before w/ zero issues.
But, I wont buy an axle online again. Had issues w/ that though.
It was a rockauto purchase. My guess is I would get a refund if this thing doesn't seal up. I've received other refunds from them. Hopefullly it's sealed.
Soo.....I snugged it some more. Prob 1/6th of 1/6th rotation...hehe. Maybe 10degrees? Ever so little but it is TIGHT.
Drove it again. Pushed rpm to 3500-4000 a few times. Right now looks good. If it leaks again I am trashing it I think. And go acdelco.
Thanks. That autozone link shows the CU2423, which is the unit I bought and am having issues w/ tranny cooler fitting leak @ rad.
I have the thread going right now. it's on fitting leaks. I just posted in it.
So...it has begun oozing tranny fluid out my problem flare fitting. I could:
1. Snug it more...1/8 turn or so? if it snaps then it snaps..
2. Trash it. Be done w/ it and buy diff model...say ACdelco 21650 that apparently has fittings installed.
3. Try to warranty it out w/ rockauto. But if it...
Splorg:
Did you buy and install OEM unit? Did you buy the 21650 model? And did it have fittings installed?
Mine is oozing now from my problems and im so "done" with this issue.
I just did this last weekend. I would NOT get one that u have to install fittings if yours are like mine. No fun.
Radiator is easy. Fittings sucked.
My experience with them:

I'm in Michigan. I know rust.
As my suggestion, buy your choice of rust lube, (mine is Fluid Film) and liberally spray INSIDE the rockers. Pull existing plugs and spray via that hole, or make your own hole and plug them.
My 2001 is from TX and have had it in MI for 5 winters and the body is...
Same thought as me, but the link I posted to was referenced from another site talking on hydraulics so it must be a "thing". The one referenced is very high-end and appears for very high pressure and for sealing surface imperfections.
It is strange though, for sure.
Update:
The teflon is holding so far. Have prob 2-3hrs run time on it and no leaks. One tranny line is sealed w/out any sealer and the other has the teflon on it. Both are ok.
Also, I did come across an expensive sealer made for minor flare imperfections, made by Henkel. In case somebody...
JCB2, I'm with ya. I agree about the threads.
However, there is no o-ring on the new fittings or the old one. They are purely meant to seal via flare fitting.
My liquid teflon did seal it up. Atleast for now, and I hope for a very long time. Who knows, maybe the teflon lube allowed it to...
I reinstalled it. Cleaned all threads with brake cleaner. Liberal liquid Teflon on threads. Will allow cure 24hrs.
Will try it tomorrow and respond with results.
I dont like sealing things this way but I'm sure lots of crazy things are done that we never know of.
Thank u all very much for...
Yeah. A simple tapered thread with o-ring seal seems like a far better and easier design. Wish it had o-ring seal.
It looked like just a couple threads with light thread locker so it doesn't back out.
I read on a forum not to use tape in risk of it getting into the fluid. They said liquid was...
I will try to clarify.
The fittings in above pic from rockauto have to be installed and then the line snaps into them. They don't come installed.
Maybe I could reuse my old ones from old rad?
But when tightened into rad they leak.
