    Differential splines

I'm looking to buy one of these, the difference being the size (I think we have 8.5in?, but that I can obviously check), and the number of splines...

    Road Trip Prep

I did the fuel pump less than 30k ago, transmission seems in good shape, the truck has really had almost all highway driving, and almost never towed. I changed the Trans fluid (just dropped pan and did filter) recently, it was in pretty good shape, didn't seem dirty or bad smelling, so that was...

    Will they fit?

Just saying, that's what I heard too, and I've definitely had some rub, I think the ko2s are a tad bigger than most tires at that listed size.

    Road Trip Prep

In taking my 'hoe for a big cross Country road Trip over the summer. Will be around 10,000 miles over a few weeks, and will include some off road/ overland type driving. Anyone got some tips on what to do / bring to prepare? She's about to hit 300,000 miles already, so I don't expect to make...

    Will they fit?

Mine did rub on the same truck pretty bad actually. Bfg ko2s. On the back they hit the liner over big bumps, pretty easy to trim and fix. In the front, it hit the plastic trim below the bumper occasionally when backing up at half steering angle. Trimmed that at an angle and it looks great. Still...

    3in Muffler Install

I've heard good things about the ultraflow. I don't want anything too loud. Should I do all the cutting myself so it just needs to be welded in place, or is it not going to be much more to have them do the full job?

    3in Muffler Install

So I'm planing on getting a Dynomax 17233 muffler, which is 3in offset in and center 3in out. (see here: https://www.amazon.com/Dynomax-17233-Ultra-Welded-Muffler/dp/B000CIT29A). What do I need to properly install this myself, I'm away from my truck right now and trying to get stuff ordered? I...

    Fixed Orifice PCV Valve?

I'm going to replace the PCV valve in my 02 Tahoe 5.3 Flex, pretty sure it's never been done in 295K Miles... The one stores match to it is the spring type, but I've read some stuff saying I should switch the the newer fixed orifice type? Others said that requires some modification other than...

Broken Intake Manifold Vacuum Fitting Cover

Replacing the intake manifold gasket a while back, I broke off this plastic cover that was blocking an unused vacuum fitting on the manifold of my 02 tahoe 5.3L. It was enough of a leak to bring my fuel trim up to about 15%. I put a rubber cover I bought at Autozone on it, and that sealed it of...

    code p0171

I think the new gasket was about $50 at autozone. Much more intimidating job than it actually is difficult. There is a lot to remove, but the whole job only took me maybe 2 hours, and a good 30 minutes of that was just cleaning up the old surface really nice. If you do it yourself, I'd recommend...

    Inside Brake Pad Wear

It felt fine when I pulled it off. I greased the slides up when I put it back together. I guess I will check it again in a few thousand miles and see what it looks like.

    code p0171

Mine did this with an intake gasket leak. Spray all over seals with carb cleaner, you should get a change in rpm. You can also watch the long term fuel trim on a scanner. It will drop to 0 when you find the leak.

    Inside Brake Pad Wear

Had some noise coming from my right rear brake, so I pulled it off and found that the inner pad was completely shot, while the outside was still fine. The left brake was fine, and I had maybe 20k on the pads. The calipers were actually replaced at the same time as the pads last time. A shop did...

    AUX Input For Factory Radio

Any of the name brand ones really. Stay away from the really cheap stuff. But anything around 100 will be good enough. Crutchfield is a good place to look , but may not have the best price, so check elsewhere when you find what you want. As a plus, crutchfield will make it easy to get all the...

    P0171/4 and misfire

Fuel trim is around 25% at idle, goes down to 13 at 3-4k rpm, then comes back up when returning to idle. However, just found spraying carb cleaner around the gasket drops the fuel trim to 0 and changes the idle slightly
  16. L

    P0171/4 and misfire

Yes, it is over 10% at idle. I have a scan tool, but I don't have a smoke machine to properly look for leaks. How can I diagnose the intake gasket leak? And if it is bad, how difficult is it to replace?
  17. L

    AUX Input For Factory Radio

For about the same price you can put in an aftermarket head unit. You'll get noticeably better sound and it's an easy job.

    P0171/4 and misfire

2002 Tahoe 5.3 Flex. In the colder months, I get a bit of a rough idle and a P0171/4 (Fuel system too lean banks 1 and/ or 2). Occasionally, especially if I let it idle more than a minute or so I get a random misfire code as well. I can't find a vacuum leak for the life of me spraying crab...

    LOUD clunk turning in 4wd

Just to give an update, The truck is now fixed with a junk yard case with around 120k miles on it. I was the victim of the infamous pump rub, found the hole the second I got it off. Really not too bad of a job. everything came off fairly easily, except the top nut on the case, which was damn...

Things to replace with transfer case

In in the process of replacing my transfer case in my 02 Tahoe (4l60e and np246). I believe I have suffered the dreaded pump rub causing me to loose fluid and wreck the case. Is there anything else I should replace while I have it apart, other than u joints. Are there seals that should really...

    LOUD clunk turning in 4wd

I'm pretty savvy. I did both front wheel bearings and a fuel pump this summer as well as lots of smaller stuff. I just get weary when it comes to pulling large drivetrain components off

    LOUD clunk turning in 4wd

haha, definitely. How hard of a job is it to swap the tcase in this? Can I do it without a lift?

    LOUD clunk turning in 4wd

Front driveshaft doesn't turn, so that pretty much confirms it is in the transfer case

    LOUD clunk turning in 4wd

Definitely the transfer case. Did a power brake and it made the noise, so seems like the chain is slipping. I'm going to try to find a used one cheap, but if I have to I may try to rebuild it, or just live without 4wd. Thanks for all the help!

    LOUD clunk turning in 4wd

Hmmm, that seems likely to be my problem. I will try the break stand test. How hard is it to replace the chain in the transfer case, and how much is it going to cost?
