Not sure if you have seen this company or not but they are offering 10 speed swaps into a lot of different platforms now. From the videos I have seen they seem to work pretty much like factory. I am hoping at some point to do the same to my truck as the 10 speed is so much better than the 6...
I would also do a new thermostat (oem) and the cover for it (blanking on the name right now). I would also do new coolant as well and you can usually get a smoking deal for the prediluted stuff on Rock Auto for less than half the cost that the local stores sell it for even counting shipping.
How are you running HPT on your MacBook? Judging by the keyboard it looks like an M1 MacBook and I was interested in doing the same but was worried about driver issues running windows in a virtual machine.
I had this exact issue in my 05 Tahoe and it took replacing the stalk (or multi function switch as its called) to fix it. Install took maybe 30 minutes and most of that was trying to get the plastic cover off the steering column and back on without breaking it.
Which kit did you get from Summit? For some reason there are many different kinds of DOD/VVT delete kits and from what I've found most don't include all the "while you're in there" items so quite a bit of research is needed to do it "right". Did you get a new timing chain cover? That is...
So I guess my reply over the weekend didn't post. I ended up using the JB Weld bumper repair stuff and it seems to have worked very well. I didn't beat on the bumper or anything but it feels pretty solid. Unfortunately didn't fix the rattle sound I thought was the bumper so that search...
Just got a 2011 Yukon today and the rear bumper tabs that are molded into the bottom of the bumper on each side of the hitch are broken/torn. It causes the bumper to flop around especially over bumps. Has anyone dealt with this before? Can it be plastic welded back together? Maybe glued instead?
I had a set of the made in china Texas Speed longtubes on my old Silverado that was driven year round. The piping looked dull and nasty but no rust or anything after I think 3 or 4 years. A friend bought it and drove it a couple more before going turbo and they still looked fine. Uncoated as...
It's been forever since I have been to a yard around here but worth a shot. I remember back when I used to go tho the doors and windows would be left open so all that stuff would be destroyed.
And fair point about the amount of time they have had. I didn't even think about that
I need to replace my DDM because of the seat heater cycling by itself plus most of the switches don't work as well as they should. I see that it's not possible to get OEM any more but there are a few aftermarket versions of different prices. Anyone have any experience with them? I know I can...
I have been using Fuelly for several years. It has a free (sometimes it tries to get you to go premium) and paid version but so far the free version has done me well. Tracks gas mileage, maintenance items and costs of things as well. I believe you can upload pics to it for invoices as well.
Yeah it's because of the different size. My dad found out the hard way it's a smaller pipe in the kit, but the muffler shop fit it up just fine for like $25 I think. I don't remember finding a kit for the 3.5" trucks because SLP doesn't offer their's anymore. But the 5.3 kit will work with...
Are you meaning because of where your's has started to rust or because of the difference in size? My dad used that kit on his 13 Denali with the bigger 3.5" exhaust and just had a muffler shop weld it on. Works great.
That’s actually a pretty interesting way to look at it. Thanks for this.
Are there any common rust areas to look out for on this gen? What about interior issues?
There have been I believe a few class action lawsuits over different 8 speed issues. Shuttering, slipping etc. I always understood it like the early 6 speed issues just more. Plus they are in relatively few vehicles compared to the 6 and 10 speeds so I feel like long term parts might be harder...
If you can afford the step up to one with a 10 speed then I highly suggest it. That trans is amazing. Sure it has some issues here and there but nothing like the 8 speed did and can easily be solved. Plus it always seems to be in just the right gear for what you need to do
Right now I have an 05 Tahoe which I like but age and the typical nbs issues (coolant seepage, abs pump issues, etc) and I am looking to upgrade. I found a 2015 Yukon with 147k on it locally that looks to be in very nice shape. Has all the options I want and they are asking just under $20k for...
Bringing this back up before I install the parts this weekend. I got 2 OEM GM tees and then also a pair of the metal Dorman 800-409HP fittings. I test fit one of the Dorman fittings on the new tees and it fit super loose on both. Is this normal? I feel like I might just send them back and...
