Picked it up this afternoon. Rode great back home. Here is rear driver’s side shock and coils (dark blue) All parts and shop labor came up to the price of two Nivomat shocks uninstalled.
Love the PPV look of that 2007 Tahoe. Mine still has the blue lights behind the grill, but it was more of a general purpose sheriff's vehicle given the standard interior and 4.8L Vortec
For me it's a second gen Toyota Sequoia 4WD or a 2005 or newer Lexus GX 470/460. Need extra power and towing capacity vs. a V6 4-Runner. If it wasn't for their engines, Ford Expedition would be good alternative.
New Bilstein shocks AND springs designed to replace Nivomat shocks and original soft springs. Taking it to shop on Tuesday. A little more labor, but the four parts just slightly more than one Nivomat shock on RockAuto. We shall see....
This is a beater Tahoe LS that I do use to tow a 4200 pound boat and trailer several times a year in hilly conditions. I know that is was used to pull a trailer some in it's previous life as a Fulton County Sheriff's vehicle. I understand keeping it stock, but any money I can save converting to...
I checked on Nivomat shocks and they are just under $300 each on Rock Auto. I do have ZW7 Premium Smooth Ride Nivomat Suspension. Assuming the coils are original and 21 years old, would be better to convert to new coils and more standard shocks? Originally was quoted 1.5 to 2 hours labor to...
It is actually both rear shocks. Talked to shop and said cold temps will affect seals in older shocks. Good news is we have reasonably priced, honest mechanics here in Extreme (their new term) Western NC. Bad News is they are backed up due to demand.
It's drivable, but needs to be addressed.
Left the 2003 Tahoe LS up at our lake house for about two weeks. Came back today and found this puddle of oily fluid by right rear tire that I think has to be brake fluid. Only other possibility is oil from shock absorber. Been pretty cold for this area with multiple nights in single digits. Any...
In almost 50 years of driving, I've never experienced what happened today. After driving about 45 minutes, stopped at destination, put Tahoe in park, turned and removed key and it continued to run at 700-800 rpm idle. Put key back in and turned on - off several times before it finally turned...
Nothing deep, like a wiper scratch. Cerium Oxide appears to be the popular choice. Would Megiuar's Ultimate Compound be another option? In both cases, would hand apply and not use DA buffer or drill.
My former Sheriff’s vehicle has clear coat failure, especially on the outside edges of the roof. There are also some deep scratches more towards center and back. Having worked on the front of the hood, I know sanding, prepping and applying spray paint and clear coat is not trivial work. Since...
Thanks for the tip on 3M. I only painted front part of hood. Going to wash well and spray old part with 50/50 isopropyl alcohol and distilled water and wipe with microfiber. Next project are the oxidation and scratches on the roof
Finally got around to painting the front part of hood. Suggestions for the best - hopefully one step - polish to help blend paint with rest of hood. Also, do I need to use clay to prep? Seems like a lot of extra work for a semi-beater Tahoe
Finally replaced OEM CD/cassette receiver with Kenwood Unit. Got it at Crutchfield with the kit and pre-wired harness for little over $200. Install was pretty easy - especially since my son did almost all the work - needed one call to customer support and rep fixed issue.
Thanks for the tips. I know the front will not perfectly match rest of hood, but can’t look worse than it is currently. Certainly not taking it down to bare metal.
Going to repaint the front part of the hood on my former police vehicle 2003 LS. Plan is to
Fill in big chips with Bondo, sand those spots with 300 grit
Wet sand whole area with 1000 grit.
Spray remaining smaller chips with Primer/filler.
Light sand again before cleaning prior to applying...
Asked my mechanic if there was a issue with this brake cable drooping. Said it was normal, but I haven’t seen any it on other similar age Tahoes or Yukons. Don’t take 2WD off road, any reason to worry?
My 20-year-old "lake house tow vehicle" has been conscripted into daily duty once again. Just curious if anyone has seen any performance or mileage benefit from using midgrade or premium in the 4.8 ?
Rolled off the Janesville, Wisconsin line in June 2003. Spent first 18 years or so as Fulton County Police vehicle (blue lights still behind the grill) Bought it Jan 2022 from a guy who’s connected with a bunch of public sector contacts throughout the Southeast. Done it’s work well hauling our...
I’ve used this one for my Tahoe, Boat and Seadoo. Amazon special, but has worked well so far and no battery overheating 10A Car Battery Charger, 12V/24V... https://www.amazon.com/dp/B09DCK7XG1?ref=ppx_pop_mob_ap_share
I bought my formerly government-owned 2003 LS primarily as a boat hauler and to occasionally move larger items back and forth from our lake house two hours away. The interior is in pretty good shape for a 20-year old, 200K miles vehicle, except for the drivers seat that had very little support...
I have the original - it appears - black antenna mast on my 2003 Tahoe LS. It’s bent slightly and some of the insulation around the mast and ground wire that runs up the mast is coming off.
There are tons of short, flexible aftermarket replacements on EBay and Amazon. My limited knowledge of...
