What did you do to your NBS GMT800 Tahoe/Yukon Today?

Spied this at the salvage yard today while liberating a door handle. Disclaimer: "Not my rig, not my work." It did however inspire me to be proactive in the not to distant future AND fabricate an access plate to this area of the gas tank AND make it look factory. Because, well, ........ fuel...

What did you do to your NBS GMT800 Tahoe/Yukon Today?

I was perusing a local salvage yard with over a dozen GMT800s. LKQ in CA charges $69.99 when you remove the trailer hitch yourself. I was there today to grab electric fans from an '06 and a pair of larger front calipers from an '08 for a brake upgrade.

What did you do to your NBS GMT800 Tahoe/Yukon Today?

I 're-replaced' lightbulbs in the climate control unit. This is the second time around as I soldered in LED bulbs the first time. The LEDs didn't play nice with the rest of the dash lights. I would get illumination fluctuations while driving in the instrument cluster and other dash lights. They...

Ebay. I went with these as I was able to remove and reuse the center cap. https://www.ebay.com/itm/363693292181 This listing includes a center cap but the finish of the flaps wasn't desirable. https://www.ebay.com/itm/374936934660 If you go with the first listing, the center cap's 'heat welds'...

Ammo box was too small for the amount of stuff to be stuffed inside. Same for metal tool boxes, fishing tackle, etc. as length is good but so far have been too narrow. I'm leery of plastic tool boxes in this area. A marine battery box hadn't occurred to me. Thanks!

Installed an auxiliary battery tray, but not for a second battery. I'm relocating the jack and goodies stored in the compartments in the rear. I wanted an appropriate sized metal box to mount here but they elude me. Stuffing items in a heavy duty canvas bag and securing it will do for now.

What did you do to your NBS GMT800 Tahoe/Yukon Today?

Riiiiiiight! The real mess was below the front seats and center console. I pulled both front seats to recover them and was greeted with this ick from a previous owner. Passenger side was worse. I almost collected $1 in sticky coins for the effort. :)

Whelp, so much for leaning on the electric yay or nay fence. I've a large LKQ yard near me in Sunnyvale with donor vehicles arriving almost weekly to pull fans and a harness from. Any recommendations for getting the fans turned on after being installed? I'm near Burbank, CA.

Thank you. No drivetrain mods planned. I've done four engine swaps on various vehicles to date with no itches to do a fifth. Aside from replacing components that may fail in the future, the only item I'm considering is nixing the mechanical fan for electrics.

Indeed. I've heard the comment, "What are the odds?" pertaining to both incidents being only months apart. Well, in this case, pretty good.

Thank you. I was nearly finished with updates on the '04 when it was hit. I couldn't let it go and am looking forward to adding 100k to the odometer.

Replaced LF wheel hub and oil pressure sending unit. I'm chasing a small oil drip and the area around the sending unit is, well, a touch moist. If the small drip persists I'll replace the oil cooler delete plate during the next oil change in hopes remedying the drip doesn't become more involved.

I've visited threads here occasionally for a couple years. Today I realized I lacked a proper introduction. :uhoh2: My first Tahoe was a 2001, 4.8L with barn doors (and manual roll up windows!) that accumulated 245k miles. I'd still be driving it had it not been totaled by street racers...

Any tips on best way to swap the steering wheel buttons?

I replaced steering wheel buttons ('04 Tahoe) and used the hook tool to pull them out similar to the video. My extra step was pulling the steering wheel. It only took a few minutes. Doing so allowed more slack in the wires to pull the buttons completely clear of the steering wheel to make...
