2003 Tahoe..No crank: neutral safety switch test and adjustment

hey all, So finally got the transmission in and all the broken things fixed. Now she won’t crank. I got it to start by jumping the starter and she started up instantly...but she won’t crank with the key. I put a new neutral safety switch in so I assume that is either bad or out of adjustment...

Oil dipstick tube broken at block

Didn’t work out...nothing will even budge it. I got a 1/4 lag in there, heated the hole and that hit it with a prybar and hammer...nothing. Hit it with the air chisel...nothing. Then the lag bolt snapped inside the hole. So, looks like I will be going without a dipstick!

Oil dipstick tube broken at block

So I am going to try 2 methods: 1) put 2 nuts and a washer on a 1/4 bolt and rice bolt into hole. Put washer and nut flat against hole and turn second but. Hoping the double washer method will pull the bolt out with the tube. 2) drive 1/4” bolt into hole. From below tap the head of the bolt...

Oil dipstick tube broken at block

Will give it a shot this morning. I planned on doing an oil change anyways. Can always stick a magnet in the drain hole and fish about.

Oil dipstick tube broken at block

You have no idea! Transmission goes so I grab a used one. In the process of removing old one all of the y-pipe to manifold studs snap so I have to extract those. Then I notice 4/12 manifold bolts have broken heads and, while removing manifolds dipstick snaps. Now, while removing starter to get...

Oil dipstick tube broken at block

Shit I never though of just plugging it up! Think I will go that route.

Oil dipstick tube broken at block

hey all, Dipstick tube broke off right where it goes into the block and I cannot find a way to extract it. I’ve tried driving a screw into the hole and then prying the screw out...with large pry bars...and it won’t budge. It even bent the crap out of the thick screw I used. I’ve also tried with...

    Transfercase gasket

hey all, So In my transmission swap journey I am finally at the point of reinstalling the transfer case. I see that there is a paper gasket on the back of the transmission where the transfer case mounts. The gasket on my transmission is there but a bit torn up. Is it ok to use it anyways...can...

    Broken exhaust manifold flange studs

hey all. Not sure if this is the right place for this... Anyhow, as some may know, last week i replaced the transmission in my 03’ ‘hoe z71 in my driveway. Long story short, the exhaust has been a nightmare: the studs from the year-pipe to muffler snapped - 3 of the 6 studs from the exhaust...

Transmission won’t separate from engine block

Alright everyone...it’s out!!!!!!!! No, there was no bolt left in it, nor was the torque converter still bolted in. It really was just fused together with the block. In the end I used a combination of 1) ratchet straps from back of transmission to fuel tank crossmember for constant pressure...

Transmission won’t separate from engine block

I watched that video yesterday but I cannot get it to break free. Even with heating the crap out of the pin area I get nothing.

Transmission won’t separate from engine block

Yup, if I remember right it’s 8 bolts - 2 bolts on the bottom, 2 studs on each side, and 2 on the top. Then there are 3 bolts on torque converter. I it’s not pinching. Engine and tranny are both tilted back.

Transmission won’t separate from engine block

hey all, Trying to remove transmission from an 03 Tahoe 5.3 but I cannot get it to separate from the engine block. All of the transmission bolts are out ( even the hard to reach top ones) and the torque converter bolts are out as well. I have loosely reinstalled 2 of the transmission bolts...

    4x4 - awd transmission interchange

Isn’t there a difference in the diameter of the input shaft? Like the 4l65e has a 300mm shaft whereas the 4l60e has a 298mm shaft?

    4x4 - awd transmission interchange

Ok, so I picked up what seems to be a 4L65E (2kzd) from the 2002 Yukon. Guy gave me the transmission, transfer case, torque converter, crossmember and both drive shafts for $400...I tried to do $350 just for the tranny but no dice. So, will this transmission bolt directly to the engine? Do I...

    4l60e slipping 3rd

Exactly... Basically I was asking if I can yank my own tranny, replace the 3-4 clutch assembly and throw it back in... And I do have a pretty good idea of what is bad: transmission line to front cooler ruptured. I fixed it but I guess in the process of fixing it another spot developed a leak...

Not sure I want to go that route...to pull a tranny, install it then find it’s no good...

    4x4 - awd transmission interchange

Thanks... Don’t plan on using the transfer case from awd. Just wondering if the 4x4 t-case will bolt to the Yukon tranny

    4x4 - awd transmission interchange

Hey all, Blew up the tranny in the 03' hoe and looking to get her back on the road cheaply. Have been offered the "4l60e" from a 2002 Yukon AWD. Will that transmission work with the transfer case from my 4x4 tahoe?

    4l60e slipping 3rd

Hey all, so after a tranny fluid leak from the from mount tranny cooler I’ve now got no 3rd gear. When it tries to go into 3rd then engine just revs but nothing happens. Sounds like the clutches have burned out. I cannot find an affordable transmission locally and don’t want to pay for a...

    Replacing transmission cooler

Cannot find a stainless compression fitting anywhere. I have managed to track down some Dayco 3/8" rubber transmission hose. I am going to put that over the tube and clamp it down...see what happens.

    Replacing transmission cooler

thanks! I think I will put a bubble flare on the end of the line that goes from radiator to cooler. That way I will have something for the clamp and hose to grab on...the other end still has the factory flare on it so I should be ok there. do you know What metal the factory tubing is? I assumed...
