Engine shuts off while driving - SOLVED

Cuts off steering to the right. Get it to cut off, then confirm the no-start Steer it back to center with engine off, then try restart May give a clue where to look

Fuel pump. Best guess. New truck, low miles, Chinese conspiracy.

    P0446 Code on Wife's 03 Z71

Waking the dead thread, Persistent/intermittent 0446 DTC. Mom's car, '04 Yuk XL 8.1. Shop charged 3-4 times trying to resolve it, $350 charcoal canister, etc. Put a little silicone grease on the inlet of the purge valve and Presto! intermittent/tiny leak gone.

leaking piston rings: seeking advice on process

Tough one. Consider that you have a bad injector on that cylinder, which would explain the rough running, excessive carbon buildup on the ring lands (detonation blowing the oil off the cylinders and overheating the rings, causing oil from below to coke up) and possibly collapsing the piston...

    lifter info

I actually used their least expensive ones, after some long discussion. Still higher quality than next best. They manufacture a lot of the super-high end race lifters under private label.

2005 Yukon feels loose on the freeway

You didn't say how many miles on it, so absent anything obvious I'll toss out some possibilities. My '04 2500 is sensitive to tire pressure. The door says 80psi rear, 50 psi front but with the pressure that low in front it feels mushy. Your 1500 may like higher pressure than door specs. Easy...

    Accelertion vibration 30-50

Yes, absolutely possible. Also if you have a center support bearing with 2-piece driveshaft, check it very carefully.

2005 Yukon feels loose on the freeway

Your airbags are deflated? Yes, this can cause wandering because the lowered rear end changes the caster of the steering. Also, check your steering shaft for play in the slider between the column and box.

More HVAC fun. Anyone seen this?

ah yes, I just acquired an OTC Genisys Evo scanner, but it's my first non OEM/PC based system ... I guess I'm going back to school for a bit. Is there a good resource for the actual locations of the components- all the actuators and their zones, temp sensors, etc? FWIW the rear system works as...

More HVAC fun. Anyone seen this?

Sooo... '04 Yukon XL 2500 SLT. Auto climate control, split front with rear on upper console. It's had intermittent fixes through it's life, and until recently was good; this issue began this past summer when I acquired it from family after it had sat without driving for a couple years. Sunroof...

L87 6.2: “NHTSA to investigate potential for engine failure in nearly 1 million GM trucks, SUVs”

I heard last fall from an inside source who overheard (meaningful pay grade/position persons) say, 'it doesn't really matter, we're going bankrupt again in 5 years'.

    #5 and #7 misfire

You need at least a compression check, and preferably a leakdown test. Head gasket is suspect. All of your symptoms support a head gasket failure, and one of the key diagnostics for head gasket failure is that all of your other efforts have not made any change.

    SiriusXM issue

Sounds like GM got kickbacks from SXM advertising. Not surprised. My experience in both my aftermarket SXM receiver and my factory '04 SXM is that new cell towers interfere so much with reception that I'm considering abandoning SXM altogether.

    Bad mpg?

Man you love to step in it. Piston area, man, piston area. Lower pressure + larger area =.... equal.

    Bad mpg?

The part you missed is that in this scenario neither engine is operating at WOT and minimum manifold vacuum. The only difference between the two at the same AF ratio and RPM is the manifold vacuum and mean cylinder pressure.

    Diesel Question

Yes, and I'm all for unleashing the diesel beasts. Modern electronic diesels with variable turbos are pretty amazing, but nobody's stock Duramax will win a drag race with a 6.0 gas motor. It will get twice the fuel mileage trying, though.

    Diesel Question

I have older diesels, '94 Chevy 6.5 turbo. They're pigs at highway speed, but get 17mpg compared to 11 in my gas trucks. If you need to accelerate to pass on the interstate, diesels are not for you. They're great pulling a load or for mileage at steady state, but passing is just not their...

    Outside tire wear

Looking at the alignment sheet, it appears you were already toed out beyond spec...should feel better driving now, but I don't expect the tire wear to improve. The caster and camber are already where I thought I'd put them, probably exactly for the same reasons too. <shrug> It yam what it yam...

    Outside tire wear

All these big turds have a lot of scrub at max steer, especially the 4x4. Is yours all wheel drive? Toe by itself can help a little, as it reduces scrub at max steer. The trade-off is a muddy feeling in the steering wheel, and eventually tire wear across the tread or even the other edge.

Is It Worth Replacing High-Mileage Injectors?

Simple answer is yes, new injectors. I use for my example my '97 Moto Guzzi 1100 Sport. It had about 22k miles when I bought it. I tuned it up using an aftermarket ECU so I have full access to fuel and timing. I took a 10k mile trip, micro-tuning it all the way- having started with a map that...

    Outside tire wear

Turning forces. Here in S. Florida, the RH front always looks like that- the constant U-turns on the boulevards do it. That it's equal on both sides, I'm supporting the theory that it's simply cornering loads. You can have the alignment shop add some caster to help with that- I don't know the...
