I have been a member here since May 2009 so almost 14 years but only have 35 posts so can't list my 1996 Two-Door Tahoe LT 4WD for sale on the forum. If anyone knows of an enthusiast looking for one please ask them to message me. Vehicle is in NJ.
Many thanks!
One thing that might help some other owners... many of the seat bolts can be accessed from under the truck. If rusty threads are an issue, you can usually get a wire brush or wire wheel on them to clean them up and spray penetrating oil on from below or run a die over them. One thing I did on...
My '96 2-door Tahoe needed a seat cushion. When I did mine I worked with The Seat Shop (near Dallas) for the replacement cushion and I also went with new leather seat covers and armrest covers. The fit was perfect and The Seat Shop's on-line videos were a big help. www.theseatshop.com
Like Woodblocker55 said above "... if one line rusts out there is another not too far behind it." I have a 1996 2-door Tahoe and had that very experience. About 10 years ago I replaced all of my brake lines after buying a coil of tube and fittings then spending a lot of time bending new ones...
Did you do the seals on the front differential already?
If the half-shafts pop out of the differential like they are designed to do then the job is not too tough. If the circle clips hang up and don't release it can be a major job. Happy to provide more detail if you have yet to do the seal...
Just had same thing with my '96 5.7L gas 2-door. Cranked strong but would not fire after 4 days of rain... after running normally before the rain. Replaced the distributor cap, rotor and Hall Effect Switch (inside the distributor). Now fires up great even while raining. I am not sure which part...
Ditto on Red Rocket's post. I ordered the molded carpet in 2012 from Stock Interiors with the heavy backing. It fit great. Still looks really good almost 5 years later.

UPDATE: I bought replacement stainless transmission cooler lines from Inline Tube (www.inlinetube.com). The part number for the set of two tubes is SCTT95D1. They fit really well in my 1996 Tahoe with 4 wheel drive, 4L-60E trans and 5.7L gas engine. Lines are 3/8"
They also sell the lines in a...
This is an update now that I have the left side half axle (stub axle) out of my 8.25" IFS front differential on the '96 Tahoe 4WD. After many attempts at getting the left axle out (prybar, axle "popper", adapter plate and slide hammer, etc.) I ended up cutting off the axle flange as close to the...
Well, the front differential is out of my 1996 Tahoe 4WD. This is an 8.25" IFS (GM) unit 3.42 ration option code GU6 and is original. Took it out to replace the seals. Pinion and right output seal were no issue. The left half axle will not come out. I have the adapter plate and slide hammer...
I put UV dye in my crankcase and ran the engine for 5 minutes then shut it off and got under the truck with a blacklight. No missing the glowing oil coming through the oil pan. This is not a gasket leak. There is actually a pinhole in the oil pan itself. I jave the pan off now. Will also replace...
Guys,
Thanks for the advice. I now have the oil pan and front differential out. With your advice I was ready for it when the differential started to drop from the brackets. I weighed it and the actual weight is 85 pounds including the right side extension (axle flange to axle flange) and fluid...
I am in the middle of replacing the oil pan on my 1996 Tahoe 4WD with 5.7L gas engine. As part of this job will also pull the front differential and replace all of the seals. Does anyone know the approximate weight of the front differential? I do not have a transmission jack fixture for my floor...
