Something seriously wrong for quite a long time. Do as suggested concerning compression test. No alternative oil will solve this issue, ever. My 99 Tahoe with a 350 CID has 217,000 miles on the clock and uses virtually no oil. And, it runs like OEM.
I had this problem on my 1999 Tahoe. I replaced the alternator and two batteries. Turned out it was a bad starter, not someting I would ever have guessed would cause a battery drain. It has been two years now with no battery drain.

Simple Upgrade
Based on what I read on this post I chose to use 3/4 ton calipers and Hawk PC (Performance Ceramic) 1/2 ton pads. The calipers worked out great, the pads not so much although the combination gave me somewhat of an improvement. By chance , while ordering some ATE Blue brake fluid...
Nice work; I'll be doing this soon myself. I am interested in your conversion to 3/4 ton brake calibers. Difficult? Or, is it simply a matter of acquiring the parts?
