    Engine hours

Our 05 Denali had a loose cable that did a momentary dead short out on the road. Engine hours went to zero when that happened. I never worried about the inaccurate engine hours, as they has also been zeroed at a cluster repair some time prior to our purchase at about 3 years and 36,000 miles.

    What to buy

These forums have repeatedly described problems with the post-2020 models that make me avoid them. Maybe I misunderstood ? Can I still defeat the AFM/DFM/whatever without changing the cam and lifters in a newer engine ? As far as values, 2020 seems to be a happy break between the rapid...

    What to buy

Our 2005 Yukon XL Denali is rusting away under us - too far gone to economically repair. We're near (pardon my language) Chicago, where the winter salt eats cars with no mercy. The 93 went the same way. Based on what I've read here I've been looking for a 2020, to get as new as possible but...

What year do I want ?

Long-time owner 2005 Yukon Denali XL. 93 GMC Suburban before that. We live in the Chiicago area and that means rust. The 05 needs to be replaced. I'll look for an inland Florida or etc vehicle. Question is - I see so many posts about this and that newer feature causing issues. I'm posting...

Brake Light Switch - adjustable pedal model

I'll be hiding now When I finally got the clip off the other day, and it flew into parts unknown, the switch fell off. Fighting with what turned out to be pre-broken switch took more attention. Long story short I was putting the switch in upside down, because that's what I thought I saw...

Brake Light Switch - adjustable pedal model

VietVet Thank you for your service I'd gladly remove the pedal assembly (this is the adjustable one) rather than fight this flimsy switch 3 inches up into a 1/2" blind slot. Hint as to where to start ? Yes, I have All Data and will look there. Thanks ! Karl PS If we had the money I'd gladly...

Brake Light Switch - adjustable pedal model

Because I need it now, not in a week. And shipping cost. And does RA really even have it? RA often shows up in searches even when they don't actually even carry the product I'm searching for, so unless it's a significant part or I need enough stuff to make the shipping not so expensive, I...

Brake Light Switch - adjustable pedal model

Cruise has been out a year or more and the Tech 2 shows the brake light switch inpo (though we still have brrake lights) Ordered the one Amazon insisted I needed and then sent it back and ordered the right one which they now recognize as fitting my truck. It's got adjustable pedals whether...

2005 Driver's power seat track alignment

Truck had the seat bottom tilt (lift/drop front and rear of seat bottom) jammrd up like every YouTube post seems to show. Seat moved fore/aft just fine but I was sick of sliding forward. Freed up the clevises and lubricated the jack screws and lever mechanisms and now the seat rottom tilt is...

    Connectors

Yup - only a few hours of pain to finally get to all the connectors, figure out what Jayesh designed in each place, and get the seat bottom off to get to the front clevis. Where the external Torx is jammed up against the floor and not really room for even a compact breaker bar to turn it. If...

    Connectors

The first series big Triumphs (the TR3, 4, etc and NOT the Spitfire) have excellent leg room. Once they started thickening the seat backs they ate up much of that room, but my '63 TR3B (drove to high school in 65 and 66) had enough room that I never had the seat all the way back. I'm 6'3". No...

    Connectors

This is mostly an old man's rant. Please just ignore it. Trying to fix the (probably just jammed) seat bottom tilt on our 2005 Yukon Denali XL. I grew up in what I believe was the real world. Like my father before me, I had an Erector set. I had few actual toys, and very little plastic...

Long crank - continues with key off

I've been a little under the weather so haven't worked on this much. It's very likely past time for a fuel pump now when it's optional rather than after it dies completely. Gauge sender has been flaky for years too. That said, I did take the Tech 2 out there the other day and did the crank...

Long crank - continues with key off

This is not a sticking solenoid, but thanks. It's being electrically held on for several seconds during some crank cycles.

Long crank - continues with key off

2005 Yukon Denali XL - 6.0 - over 170K. Owned since 2008 when it had 36K. Original fuel pump and sending unit assembly or at least we've never changed it. After having the transmission pulled to replace the rear main seal and (cam?) sensor to solve bad oil leaks, there's a weird problem. The...

    Unknown sensor (?) wire

Looks like I never posted the final fix here, but with another thread that I started later. I bought AllData DIY and got a wiring diagram. Turns out this was the ground for ALL the coil packs. No idea why some GM genius wanted these to run to the bottom of the engine or attach to a ground...

Stock radio minimum volume way too high

Tech 2 runs the microphone test - failed first time or two, then 4-5 different tries and it passed every time. Still need the automatic volume off, and it works fine except that feature. ALLDATA's rendition of the GM procedure says to replace the microphone and see if that fixes it. It's a...

Stock radio minimum volume way too high

I've recently bought a Tech 2 but haven't looked for radio info. Been tied up with house stuff. This is a wonderful diversion from plumbing. I hate plumbing.

Stock radio minimum volume way too high

Well that went easily. Never tried turning off the noise compensated volume. Loved that feature, didn't notice that it wasn't working. Now running through AllData's diagnostics to figure out what's wrong. At least for now the radio isn't blasting at lowest volume.

Stock radio minimum volume way too high

05 Denali XL, all options, best radio. Had since 08. Radio (cd, etc) has always been wonderful. Last few years the minimum volume has been creeping up. Now the lowest is now too loud except on the highway, and one notch lower the volume goes off. Last competent and honest radio shop I knew...

    Bearing clearance.

You've got the bearings out. You're spending all that money on the top end. You'll be buying gaskets anyway. I presume you're also checking piston fit, ring gap and fit in piston grooves, and then honing the cylinders since you're in there. What can you save by not replacing the bearing...

    Auto braking being ridiculous

I hate ABS and traction control for that reason. I've been driving in snow and ice, 99% RWD except for the Suburban and AWD Yukon and a couple of kids FWD cars, since the early 60's. SCCA raced in my 20's. I can definitely stop better in rain or ice and snow than ABS. And traction control...

    Unknown sensor (?) wire

Yup. Anything connected to 12V at one side and not grounded, so with no current flow, will measure 12V at the ground side until it's grounded.

    Unknown sensor (?) wire

BINGO Somebody did a half-assed repair of a damaged ground wire, using a color that led me away from thinking of a ground. Jumped it to ground and it runs just fine. Had the battery disconnected again all night in case it was something that needed to be reset, so it'll have to re-learn some...
