Hidden compartment holster
Since the area is small and my EDC is a Sig Sauer, I keep a small S&W Hammerless Airweight .38 Spl. in a simple vinyl holster with Velcro on one side. I then glued the mating Velcro to the interior of the compartment for easy access and so it stays put when one of us draws the weapon. In states... -

Rattle from rear of vehicle
I've experienced the same thing, sounds like it's coming from the rear glass. Twice, I couldn't reproduce the noise while at the dealer. If I open the rear glass and then close it firmly, it will go away for a while.
