Hi all - just an update on my lower oil pressure issue since some people asked for it.
I was too busy to do much diagnosing myself, so I took it to a shop. They replaced the oil pressure sending unit ($200), but that didn't fix anything. Pressure remained between 20 and 30. So, they spent...
Thanks all!! I appreciate the advice. In the worst case, even if it does cost $700 or a little more, that would be about the cost of me registering a new vehicle. Our other taxes here aren't bad (western Colorado), but bend over when you want to register a vehicle.
I'll let you know how this...
wjburken - thank you very much. I'll try that this weekend. What will happen to the extra oil I put in? I assume I should drain it back out after the test?
Also - if a bad o-ring is the problem - any guess on how much that repair might be? My wife and I have already decided that with 200,000...
Wjburken - it kicked over 200,000 this summer. No oil drips that I've seen, but I'll keep looking. I've considered getting a pressure gauge but I read in one thread that what harbor freight sells doesn't have the right adapter. Maybe that's changed???
Danjy3737 - Yes!!! It's something like 6 hours labor to replace the plugs and another 2 for the wires. That's what shops get by 'the book' I hadn't done anything on a car since I was 19 and I'm now 62 but I had the whole job done by lunch.
A couple of weeks ago, my oil pressure under normal driving conditions dropped from 40 to about 20, sometimes 30. No warning light has ever come on, no noise from the engine, oil level is full, no issues at all while driving and the pressure's never dropped below 20.
I'm suspecting that the...
Thank you everyone for the help and confidence you gave me to get this job done. My main mechanic shop quoted me $1000. I did it for $130 in parts, including a magnetic spark plug socket that the auto parts store lady said would make the job easier. The plugs were in horrendous condition...
Thank you Fless, I'll take a look at that link. The lady who works at the auto parts store where I bought my plugs said 'the book' allows for 8 hours of labor for the plugs and 5 hours for the wires. Last year my main mechanic shop quoted me $1,000 so I guess that's where they got that number...
Clandr1 - that's good to know. I bought new plugs & wires last week and am going to try to tackle the job in the next few days. The rear passenger side plug looks rough, but maybe it's not as bad as it looks. Wish me luck :)
Thank you! Nice to know the inside of your engine looked that good. I would like to replace it someday with a vehicle with about 2,000 lb more towing capacity...but it's hard for me to make that change when my Yukon is still running so well. Thanks again!
Thank you. I had the MAF replaced about a year ago. I use BG-44K at least two or three times a year so hopefully that has helped clean the injectors. Thanks for the reminder on the wires. When I complain about power, that's towing 7,500 lbs up an 8% grade at 12,000 feet :) Otherwise this...
Fless - Good question. When I bought it at 90,000 the Carfax showed regular oil changes, brakes, etc but nothing about the plugs. It ran perfectly. My guess is the original owner decided to replace it before 100,000. I know when I was younger 100,000 was the death knell for many vehicles...
2004 Denali. 6.0 engine. I bought it 5 years ago with 90,000 on it and have maintained it meticulously. It had a great service record with the 1st owner. I had the transmission rebuilt 2 years ago, have replaced almost everything in the susepension and replaced the alternator and fuel pump...
