Update, I've taken both sides out along with the front drive shaft, drives perfectly fine. Cut the boot, loosened the lock ring and the cv axle shaft slide right out. Reattached and driving like normal with no differential noise.

This is a question that I've gotten 2 answers on and all answers from experienced mechanics. I'm leaning more towards cutting the front boot of the cv axle and removing the shaft retaining the center nut.
