Finally got around to tearing in to the Yukon more. Passenger head is cracked (tested at machine shop) and pulled the lifters to find out the lifters and cam lobes are pitted and scorn with bluing which means she has heated up prior to my ownership. I also noted when I parked the Yukon before it...
Cylinder-heads are off, passenger side head-gasket is toast! There were two breaks in the head-gasket near cylinder #2. Someone has been in the head prior to my ownership as they were fel-pro head-bolts that I removed with unknown brand head-gaskets.
Now time to clean up the block, pistons...
Well, finally got around to tearing the motor down. Let's just say things do not look good. Both valve covers are coated in milkshake (Coolant mixed in oil) and noted that the #2 Cylinder has coolant on top intake valve. Unsure at this point if it is just a blown head gasket or if I cracked a...
Thanks James, unfortunately Flex-Fuel is hard to come by around me. I'm just going to stick with non-flex since she's going to be my towing rig as I have a commuter now
Ok, I'm about to start collecting parts to tear down the Yukon. What has been suggested so far for my LY6 6.0L
Keep my current heads in lieu of LS3 heads as they are Cast #823 heads, LOL.
Clean up heads and install new valve guide seals if needed.
Replace lifters with LS7 Lifters and tray
New...
Nice part is my LY6 comes with L92/LS3 square port heads from the factory, so no need to hunt down an intake etc. This will be a simple plug and play setup for some more power under the hood. :)
How did I ring in the new year?
Here, let me right a poem...
Roses are Red, Violets are Blue oh Head Gasket why did you blew?! LMAO
I figured there had to be more to the story as to why I was having performance loss and oil on the spark plugs.
So... now these are going to be ordered in the...
3 out of 8 coils seem to have issues upon tearing into the truck. #2, #3 and #6 are the problem children. #2 is not firing at all, #3 has weak spark but operates normal upon 2,000 or < RPM's and #6 wants to heat up to 210 degrees while all other coils is 73 degrees. Needles to say I will be...
Wish I still had the maroon Suburban, I would have bought them in a heartbeat!

That I did, I got 51MPG heading to work and was only $30 to fill up. This will give me sometime to sort out the Yukon and not rush to get it back on the road
Same, I just bought my Dad's commuter off of him so I'm going to take my time going through the Yukon and repair issues as found. Along with the updated valve cover, I'm going to replace the passenger side valve cover gasket and intake manifold gaskets. I'll also check/replace the valley pan...
Knock sensors are not under the intake for my Gen IV LY6, they're mounted on the sides of the engine block. Easy to access and came with a lifetime warranty if they fail so I wasn't stressing it. The earlier Gen III Vortec's are under the intake and agreed, ONLY run Delco knock sensors and...
Could be a plethora of things that caused it in my opinion; faulty sensor, bad batch of fuel as I had pre-ignition just before loss of performance, etc.
What I meant by went to shit is that they fouled out, which is odd. I'm not knocking AC Delco's all I am saying is that they went bad in 6...
