This is a pretty general question but I figured "Ask and be told .... no... no clue" or maybe strike some luck
With the large membership here, anybody by chance from nearby the Ottawa Ontario area that might know of a good welder to re-weld fresh rear-quarters? I have the full size parts to...
@S33k3r Any particular reason on why the Alternator got called? Charge on the whole truck is great, no dimming of lights. Maybe I'll look into swapping fresh belts and the tensioner first.
My buddy was quite surprised it would be the alternator too. Such a weird fail :)
Thanks for the heads up! I've been thinking about changing the Alternator early because it's an easy repair and it's probably still stock. I wonder if that means the cabling is good and the initial spin on the Alternator is giving a drop in current
So far... knock wood... with new wiring harness for the Ignition coils... no codes yet. I will know more of course after some driving.
the only scary part (other than removing the Ignition Coil rail/bracket was getting the plugs on BACKWARDS the first time. Truck was NOT happy with me there...
This was just OBD2. I will check it out with a Live connection later after dropping in the new wiring harness for the Ignition coils.
Thanks for the tip!
So good old Check Engine pops up. "Hey stupid! It's a 355 and 353 repeating! Go fix it!"
Checking up, Ok Misfire on 3 and 5 and 2 at one point. Engine *DID* run rough. I could feel it. Swapped out new Sparks (AC Delco) and cables all the way around. Now runs smooth (as far as I can...
So if anybody is curious, I'm halting "playing about with Truck wires" until winter is officially over. I may not have all the bells I want but for now, it starts and drives nice and is "close enough" :)
I'll try to grab some pictures but this weekend I had a booboo. I managed to pop out a button from steering Wheel and found only Wires behind (Somebody I think popped it out badly before) so I ended up learning how to disassemble the steering wheel to remove the wiring harness.
Surprisingly it...
The other option (I'll run a Cable test on the supplied cable) if you need to run an extended Serial run would be to swap out the silly ribbon cable with a proper Cat6e network cable. That should run well beyond 100ft without even trying
Hmm maybe my term is incorrect. In theory if I drive my 2006 Suburban to GM to add on the RPO code to enable the steering wheel controls (provided the clock spring is already wired up) there is a process in which GM goes to use the Tech 2 on my vehicle in combination with getting a VCI (or...
Curious. I can see the option to use VCI and seems to give me options to play with RPO option adding but you need to call and get a "VCI activation" for the VIN. I am going to guess this is a "Dealer only option" and not something a regular person on the street paying for SPS2 can do.... or...
Very cool. Just playing with the SPS2 and so far the only thing I am wondering is does the Tech2 need to be attached to both the computer with SPS2 and the vehicle at the same time?
Promised I would share, here is the wiring that I had to put back IN since the Clockspring I bought was missing the connector for the Cruise Control in my 2006 Suburban.
So phase 1 of moving my Cruise Control wiring back into the Clock Spring is complete. I sat down and traced the 8 wires from the Connector back to the "Convoluted Wiring Connector" and documented all 8 pins it uses. (Two are shared pins but one of them is a splice into a common wire)
I made a...
I'm still figuring it out but add me to the list. Ottawa, ON, Canada. Tech2 Knockoff for $300 but hey. It does talk to the 2006 Suburban
Now if could only figure out how to enable options I DON'T have easily. Anybody have an FAQ on the Tech2 for options or is there a tool to modify the...
Started playing. The Axxess is wired up correctly (not much with the AVH 2400 NEX to do) but nothing seemed to work. I grabbed the original AM/FM GM radio and plugged it in. The clock spring is recent from eBay and all the DIC buttons seem to work. Now this truck NEVER had the options...
Now onto the final phase which is getting the Steering Wheel wired into the Radio. I picked an Axxess adapter but it looks like it doesn't like my AVH2400NEX (it wants the Idatalink connector) so that arrived today.
The only "Scary part" is running a wire down to Pin 31 to pull the Steering...
@George B Thanks for the hand up. I found the bins on the site and have brought my tool back up to the most current NAO bin :)
Also just ordered a battery for my Lenovo T510. It's running Windows 7 with no Virtualization needed and all good.
Now to read up and see how to use this beast !
Any chance you may still have that BIN file booting about? I would quite grateful. I mean the Tech2 *is* working fine now but on an older version of the software that has no clue what the year 2021 is ;)
Oh ... good grief.... same site... I can see the needed bins :) Thanks for the nudge!
@Fless It's an option in the silly Tech2. I could probably get an adapter and do it all on Windows/Linux but well.... that's just me and i try to stick to a stock solution vs. a Sean created one ;)
So on a completely pointless "Sean messed up note", anybody here in the Ottawa GTA that if I bring over my PCMCIA card we can dupe from another Tech2 to update it? ;)
*cough cough* I can bring cookies, or beer :P
But on a very happy note, the Cluster does NOT care about the VIN. The cluster has the technical knowledge of the Mileage/Fuel Economy/Advancedx DIC. the BMC contains the list of options it can can change and will differ with each BMC including some of the selectable options
So m new cluster...
