    Scanner needed

Looking for a good scanner that will do live data on a 98 Yukon. (Cylinder misfires, trans codes, etc.. ) Bluedriver apparently does not do that- I was considering until I saw the year limitations. Anyone got anything? Thanks!

    Leaking timing cover

I think I know what happened. When taking off the cover, part of the oil pan seal came off with it, and until that's fixed, I don't think I'll have a resolution. Time to drop the pan. This might hurt.

    Leaking timing cover

OMG its leaking again. I'm going to try this one more time- maybe use a different RTV. And more of it. I'm hoping I don't have to actually drop the front Dif and oil pan to make this fit? It seemed a fine fit each time I've done this. Shop wants 900- mentioned they would do those things. I'm...

New Steering Box- lots of play

It was the ball joints. They were toast. Replaced all 4 and it’s like a new truck. Couldn’t be happier! Now onto the Raptor liner.

New Steering Box- lots of play

So I'm taking it all down.. Realized my ball joints were much worse off than I thought. Changing them all out, and the tie rods. Will then reassemble and see if that helps.

New Steering Box- lots of play

In the quest to get my truck back to life, I bought a Redhead Steering Box. I believed the original one to be shot- I could barely keep it on the road. Decided to just scrap it and get a new one. So I replaced the rag joint (it was shot) and the steering box, along with the pitman arm. Wasn't...

    Leaking timing cover

So, it's looking good. Spent an hour or two cleaning everything up from that last install, and was generous with the Brake Kleen. Used Permatex "Right Stuff" and let it sit overnight. Prelim tests look good! I did 5 miles, came back let it idle for 10 mins, nothing. I appreciate the advice folks!

    Leaking timing cover

I did let it dry 24 hours, I didn't brake Kleen! That will be a must this time. Thanks.. good info.

    Leaking timing cover

It's leaking from the bottom of the perimeter. I have a crap ton of RTV on the bottom. Maybe it's just not setting right? I have the timing chain switched out. I don't know the condition of the oil gasket- I haven't touched the pan.

    Leaking timing cover

Round 1. Bought a ATP, lots of RTV, busted a bolt (resolved) and it still leaked. Do some research, apparently the ATP were sub-par fits. Sent it back, bought a AC Delco, and it seemed to fit very well. Put everything back together, and it was fine for 10 minutes. Then it leaked like the first...

    Busted timing cover bolt

Thanks all, much appreciated. I ended up having enough of the threads exposed to catch a bolt. The incessant drilling kind of whittled away the bolt enough that I could get a same-sized bolt locked in and that seemed to have done the trick. I'm glad. Looks like the helicoil was the next step...

    Busted timing cover bolt

I really screwed up. I had a major oil leak in the timing cover so I decided to remove it and put the new one in. One of the bolts broke off, not sure why, I had not even hit 18 foot pounds of torque. I’m trying every trick in the book to get the bolt out, But nothing seems to work. I’ve spent...

No 4 Lo. Despite all the efforts

Wanted to let you guys know- it was the fuse. Replacing it with a 20AMP restored full functionality after the encoder and case replacement. I'm back in business! Thanks all.

No 4 Lo. Despite all the efforts

Yup. Have to be in neutral, slow speed, etc.. I just went out and found that the #2 Fuse was blown. (10 AMP- Transfer Case). I replaced it. It instantly blew again without touching anything. I'm thinking I may have bare wires touching somewhere? Something may have changed with the encoder...

No 4 Lo. Despite all the efforts

So I went the shop route. They told me it was a binding transfer case encoder motor. Simple enough. I ordered one and replaced it. I didn't get the results I expected. Where the old one would flash into 2hi- 4hi (but not 4Lo) and pick one and stay, the new one has a solid Neutral, 2HI and 4LO...

No 4 Lo. Despite all the efforts

Thanks. If there are error codes that I can't get to, it might be prudent just to take it to a shop with a scanner. Might save some time. I might drop the encoder motor and try that manual shift first..

No 4 Lo. Despite all the efforts

Hi folks, I'm reviving my 98 Yukon piece by piece. The latest adventure was to restore the 4WD. My transfer case was shot, so I bought an upgraded one. I think - Think.. the install was a success, but it wont go into 4Lo. The Service 4WD is now OFF after the replacement. After pouring over...

    98 Yukon Np246 Install

I was cleaning the surfaces to use either option, and noticed that the inner ring might've been nicked from one of the transfer case studs during removal. I'm hoping a straight up gasket will be good enough?

    98 Yukon Np246 Install

Hi folks, About to install a remanufactured NP246 into the Yukon. Came with a gasket. I'm hearing that some use RTV with the gasket- others are saying just use the gasket that came with it. Wondering if there's anyone out there that can offer experience on either? Thanks! -D
